Box Score

(Rolla, Mo.) –The Missouri S&T Lady Miners had its school record 11-game winning streak snapped by Drury 57-53 on Saturday night in Rolla. Drury was without its leading scorer Ja'Nell Jones but the Lady Miners had no answer for Bethanie Funderburk who scored 21 points.

The Lady Miners (13-3, 7-1 GLVC) struggled to hang onto the ball early and paid for it as Drury (10-5, 6-1 GLVC) scored eight points off of S&T turnovers to race to an early 16-6 lead in the games first eight minutes. Funderburk and Kylie Williamson teamed up for nine of the points.

The Lady Miners began to settle in and chip away at the lead over the next two minutes. Courtney Kemp (Fredricktown, Mo./Fredricktown) started the run with a three then Julie Meyer (Marthasville, Mo./St. Francis Borgia) and D'Naya Mims (Chicago, Ill./Harlan Community Academy) hit back-to-back shots to make it a three-point game.

Williamson quieted the run momentarily with a long jumper, but S&T ran off eight straight behind back-to-back threes from Katelyn Heil (Dexter, Mo./Dexter) and Senait McLeod (Miami, Fla./Coral Reef) to grab a 21-18 with 6:28 left in the frame. Karli Sample (St. Joseph, Mo./Benton) kept the Lady Miners ahead by three with a layup before the Lady Panthers went on a 5-0 run highlighted by a three from Williamson to regain the lead.

The lead was short lived though as Hailee Parks (Sullivan, Mo./Sullivan) tied it with a layup then Toni Knar (Mundelein, Ill./Mundelein) buried a three from the wing on the break to make it 28-25.

It wouldn't last though as Drury scored the final four points of the frame to take a 29-28 lead into the break.

The Lady Panthers shot only 32 percent (11-for-34) from the floor but had 12 offensive rebounds which they turned into nine second chance points. Williamson had 11 while Funderburk had seven.

S&T was 12-for-25 (48 percent) from the field and made 36.4 percent from downtown. Meyer had six points to pace the Lady Miners while Parks had four and four others had three apiece.

The second half started where the first one left off as Drury extend its lead to four points inside the first three minutes on a three by Funderburk.

S&T eventually caught up and regained a 39-38 on a free throw by Meyer. That turned out to be the Lady Miners last lead as Funderburk hit yet another three to regain the lead at 41-39.

Meyer had a chance to tie the game but went 1-of-2 at the line to pull S&T within 41-40.

The Lady Panthers took advantage extending its lead to five on an old-fashioned three-point play by Funderburk and a free throw by Williamson.

S&T was able to cut the deficit to two on a three by Kemp but Funderburk pushed it back to five with her third triple of the second half.

The Lady Miners climbed back to within a point on a fast break layup by Parks but couldn't get over the hump as Drury scored five straight to make it 56-51 with 2:23 left.

Meyer pulled S&T back within three at 56-53 with 1:32 to go and it had its chances but unlike the previous four games it couldn't make the plays down the stretch.

Drury made it 57-53 on a free throw on a free throw by Sara Jane Plemmons with 0:15 left.

Both teams shot the same percentages in the second half but the Lady Panthers were 3-of-6 from three while the Lady Miners were only 1-for-8 from behind the arc.

Funderburk scored 14 of her points in the second half to lead all scorers. Williamson finished with 14. Funderburk had a double-double as well with 11 rebounds.

Parks led the Lady Miners with 14 points while Meyer finished with 12. Mims had seven rebounds along with six points.

S&T returns to action on Monday night when it hosts Saint Joseph's College beginning at 5:30 p.m.
