(Rolla, Mo.) – It's been a long time, 10 years in fact, since the last time the Missouri S&T Lady Miners were victorious over the Rockhurst Hawks. That streak came to an end on Friday night as the Lady Miners picked up a 1-0 win over the Hawks at the S&T Soccer Field.

The last time the Lady Miners beat the Hawks was October 14, 2000, in Kansas City with S&T grabbing a 5-1 decision.

The game was scoreless at the intermission though play was dominated by Rockhurst (3-2-1, 1-1-1 GLVC) in the opening half. The Hawks finished the frame with an 8-to-3 advantage in shots and forced Stacey Luquette (St. Amant, La./St. Amant ) to make a couple of saves. Rockhurst also had four corners in the frame compared to none for the Lady Miners (3-1, 3-1 GLVC).

The second half though was a different story as S&T regrouped and came out strong to begin the frame. It remained scoreless until the 70th minute when Melissa Young (Jefferson City, Mo./Helias) put a ball in the box and Melia Miller (Richardson, Texas/J.J. Pearce) finished it off from point blank range for her second goal of the season.

The Lady Miners nearly had another goal just over three minutes later when Leah Williams (Lawrence, Kan./Free State) hit a laser headed for the far post but the Rockhurst keeper made a great diving save to keep it 1-0.

S&T withstood a final rush from the Hawks in the last 10 minutes, but the Lady Miner defense stood tall allowing only one shot to get to the keeper.

S&T outshot Rockhurst 8-7 in the second half and had three corners to just two for the Hawks. Of the Lady Miners eight shots, six were on frame.

S&T is back in action at home on Sunday when it hosts Quincy University beginning at 2:30 p.m.
