ROLLA, Mo. — Missouri S&T women's soccer will host a Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament quarterfinal for the first time in program history when they welcome Rockhurst at noon Saturday at Allgood-Bailey Stadium.
The Miners enter the postseason third in the GLVC, earning home-field advantage for the quarterfinal round. Missouri S&T finished the regular season with a 10-4-2 overall record and a 9-3-2 mark in conference play.
S&T will look to rebound from a 2-1 loss to the University of Missouri-St. Louis in its regular-season finale.
Ella Kramer (Liberty, MO/Liberty North) scored the Miners' lone goal in the 82nd minute off an assist from
Jewelle Anderson (Union, MO/Union High School), briefly leveling the match before UMSL scored the eventual game-winner late in the second half.
Rockhurst enters the quarterfinal with a 9-5-3 overall record and a 7-5-2 mark in GLVC play. The Hawks and Miners met earlier this season on Sept. 16 in Rolla, with Rockhurst earning a 2-1 victory.
Missouri S&T took an early lead in that meeting when Kramer scored in the eighth minute, with
Lily Simpson (Lexington, KY/Lafayette) and
Morgan Pack (San Diego, CA/Academy of Our Lady of Peace) credited with assists. Rockhurst equalized on a penalty kick by Julia Witt in the 38th minute before Jazmin Martinez Rangel scored the decisive goal in the 73rd minute off an assist from Maggie Leahy.
The Miners outshot Rockhurst 13-10 and held an 8-3 advantage in corner kicks in the first meeting, but the Hawks converted two of their four shots on goal to secure the win. S&T will look to turn that performance into a different result in Saturday's elimination match.
The Miners finished the regular season with 36 goals scored and 18 goals allowed across 16 matches. A balanced group of scorers has led S&T's attack, while the defense has helped the team secure a top-three conference finish.
