JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — Missouri S&T women's soccer continued its historic run Wednesday, rolling past Lincoln 6-1 on the road to extend its winning streak to six games, tie the program record for consecutive victories and secure a home game in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament quarterfinals for the first time in program history.
The Miners (10-3-2, 9-2-2 GLVC) also continued to rewrite the program's offensive record book, bringing their season goal total to 35. That mark surpasses the previous high of 29 goals scored in 2008, since Missouri S&T joined the GLVC.
Missouri S&T wasted little time establishing control, scoring twice in the opening 10 minutes.
Aubrey Case (Yorktown, VA/Tabb) opened the scoring in the seventh minute on an assist from
Jewelle Anderson (Union, MO/Union High School), and
Ella Kramer (Liberty, MO/Liberty North) converted a penalty kick in the ninth minute to give the Miners a 2-0 lead.
The Miners added another goal just before halftime when
Brooke Bendoff (Kirkwood, MO/Kirkwood) found the back of the net in the 44th minute.
Jenna Marti (Sammamish, WA/Eastside Catholic) provided the assist, sending Missouri S&T into the break with a commanding 3-0 lead.
Missouri S&T continued its offensive pressure after halftime, with
Adriana Benassi (Lee's Summit, MO/Lee's Summit) scoring in the 58th minute to extend the advantage to four goals. Lincoln responded with a goal in the 73rd minute, but the Miners quickly regained control and closed the match with two more scores.
Nathalie Bello (Hattiesburg, MS/Sacred Heart) found the net in the 82nd minute before
Grace Young (Sykesville, MD/Liberty) capped the scoring in the 86th minute. Bendoff assisted on Young's goal to finish the match with a goal and an assist.
The Miners dominated the statistical categories, outshooting Lincoln 25-8 and putting 18 shots on target compared with three for the Blue Tigers. Missouri S&T also held an 11-0 advantage in corner kicks.
The victory carries major postseason implications for Missouri S&T, which has now matched the program record with six consecutive wins. The Miners have also clinched the opportunity to host a GLVC Tournament quarterfinal match for the first time in program history, adding another milestone to an already record-setting season.
