Lady Miners fall in straight sets at Wisconsin-Parkside

Box Score (Somers, Wis.) – The Missouri S&T Lady Miners volleyball team fell 3-0 (20-25, 18-25 and 23-25) to Wisconsin-Parkside on Friday evening in Somers, Wis.

The opening set was tight early on as there were five ties and two lead changes through the first 18 points. The Rangers (15-5, 3-2 GLVC) used a 6-1 run to build a 14-10 lead behind a pair of kills by Caroline Langer. The Lady Miners (6-15, 2-3 GLVC) cut it back to three before another UW-Parkside run pushed the advantage back to five. S&T responded by scoring three of the next four points behind a couple of kills by Julie Meyer (Marthasville, Mo./St. Francis Borgia) to bring to 18-15.

The Rangers then went on a 6-2 run to get to set point at 24-17. The Lady Miners were able to stave off three set points but not a fourth as Addie Kramer ended the set with a kill for the 25-20 win.

S&T finished the frame with 16 kills and hit .204 but committed six errors. UW-Parkside hit 31.6 percent in the set recording 15 kills against only three errors.

The Lady Miners fell behind by eight early in the second and were unable to recover as the Rangers hit 22 percent in the frame while taking advantage of seven S&T errors to coast to the 25-18 victory.

The Lady Miners led for most of the third set until a Parkside run midway through tied things up at 15 all. The Rangers then proceeded to go on a 4-1 run to take the lead 19-16. The lead would remain at three for the next six points before S&T went on a 4-1 run to tie the match up at 23 all. Parkside though answered by scoring the final two points taking the match 25-23.

The Lady Miners finished the contest hitting .146 and 39 kills against 20 errors while the Rangers had 44 kills and committed 12 errors.

Meyer had yet another double-double for S&T recording 14 kills and 15 digs to lead the way. Danielle Kracl (Omaha, Neb./Burke) had 21 assists and Bridget Williams (Topeka, Kan./Hayden) finished with 13 digs.

The Lady Miners travel to Romeoville, Ill., to take on Lewis University beginning at 4 p.m.
