Miners Leave Crossover with Trio of Wins After Sweep of Roosevelt

HAMMOND, Ind.  – Missouri S&T women's volleyball picked up their third win of the weekend on Saturday morning, defeating the Roosevelt Lakers in straight sets to improve to 12-9 on the season.

The Miners created separation early with a fopur-point run featuring two aces by Maggie Miller (Gretna, NE/Gretna) to take an 11-8 lead. Three consecutive kills by Danielle Wilke (Palmer Lake, CO/Palmer Ridge) helped S&T extend its advantage, while Addie Schoenberger (Menomonee Falls, WI/Sussex Hamilton) added three kills later to help the Miners pull away for a 25-19 win in the opening set.

A double block by Elly Decker (Manhattan, IL/Lincoln-Way West) and Kate Zipprich (Hardin, IL/Calhoun) capped a 7-2 start for the Miners in the second set. Roosevelt cut the deficit to one at 9-8, but S&T responded with a decisive 9-0 run behind Miller's serve, which included three aces. Zipprich and Selin Ozdemir (Ankara, Turkey/Bilim) each recorded two kills and a block late in the set as the Miners closed out a 25-13 victory.

The third set remained tight early, with neither team leading by more than two points through the first 31 rallies. S&T gained momentum with a 4-0 run to take a 20-15 lead, but Roosevelt answered with five straight points, including three kills by Aleksandra Barac, to tie the score at 20. The Lakers took a late 24-23 lead, earning them set point, but the Miners rallied with three consecutive points to complete the sweep, capped by a solo block from Ozdemir.
