BOLIVAR, Mo. -- Missouri S&T Baseball picked up their 12th consecutive win on Friday night.
Will Beckham (Mountain Home, AR/Mountain Home) recorded 3 hits and 3 RBIs in 5 at bats, including a home run to help the Miners defeat Southwest Baptist 10-9.
The Miners started the game off strong at the plate, getting three doubles in the opening inning to score Beckham and
Garrett Meyer (Jacksonville, IL/Jacksonville), going up 2-0. They would double their lead in the top of the second, with
Drew Baugus (Kirkwood, MO/Kirkwood) and
Bricen Smith (Perry, GA/Mount de Sales Academy) both hitting singles as the Miners went ahead 4-0.
Southwest Baptist finally found home plate in the bottom of the fourth, taking advantage of strong winds blowing infield to outfield to bring in three runs on two homers. The Miners responded in the top of the 5th, getting a lead off homer from Beckham before four singles helped the Miners take a 7-3 lead.
The Bearcats hit four home runs between the 5th and 7th innings, cutting into the Miners lead. The top of the 8th propelled the Miners to a three-run lead. Smith hit a lead off double, crossing home plate two at bats later after a single by Beckham. Meyer also scored in the inning, coming home on a sac fly by
Aiden Cizek (Wildwood, MO/Lafayette).
A double and a single by the Bearcats helped bring in two more runs in 8th, cutting the Miners' lead to one entering the final inning. S&T got a runner in scoring position in the top of the 9th but came up empty, taking the game into the bottom of the inning with only a one run difference.
Ethan Payne (Bentonville, AR/Bentonville) retired the Bearcats in order to earn the save, ending the game on a strikeout.
S&T totaled 14 hits in the game, with Beckham recording three of those. Five Miners recorded extra base hits in the contest, led by Beckham's double and homer.
