BOLIVAR, Mo. -- Missouri S&T Baseball kept their win streak rolling today, picking up victories in both ends of their doubleheader against the Southwest Baptist Bearcats.
Game 1: Miners 9, Bearcats 4
Singles by
Drew Baugus (Kirkwood, MO/Kirkwood) and
Garrett Meyer (Jacksonville, IL/Jacksonville) scored a run for the Miners in the opening inning of game two, but the Bearcats responded with a run of their own to tie the game. The Miners wasted no time regaining control, plating three runs in the top of the second to take a 4-1 advantage. They would add two more runs later in the fifth, with Meyer and
Bricen Smith (Perry, GA/Mount de Sales Academy) scoring on a double by
Denton Damgaard (Colorado Springs, CO/Cheyenne Mountain HS).
A run in the fifth and two more in the sixth game the Bearcats some life, making it a two-run game entering the seventh and final inning. A single from
Will Beckham (Mountain Home, AR/Mountain Home) and a two-run homer from
Aiden Cizek (Wildwood, MO/Lafayette) more than doubled the Miners lead in the top of the inning, making it a 9-4 contest while
Dylan Wipf (Oak Park, IL/River Forest) closed the game out in the bottom of the inning to earn the Miners their 14th consecutive win.
Game 2: Miners 9, Bearcats 3
S&T used a big first inning to pull away early in game one, scoring five runs in the opening frame. The Miners totaled 6 hits in the inning, all coming on singles. The Bearcats added a trio of hits in the bottom of the first but only scored one, later adding two more in the bottom of the second on a single to center field with runners on second and third. The Miners immediately answered in the top of the third, mirroring the Bearcats and scoring two off a deep single to the outfield by Baugus.
Andrew Hedgecorth (Smithville, MO/Smithville) shut the Bearcats out the rest of the way, only giving up three hits in the final five innings. He threw a complete game, striking out five and only giving up two earned runs in the outing while throwing just 89 pitches in the game. The Miners added to their lead in the top of the 7th, getting singles from
Nick Hooper (Grain Valley, MO/Grain Valley) and Baugus to make it a 9-3 victory for S&T.
Smith led the Miner offense in the doubleheader… hitting .625, stealing two bases, and scoring five runs. Cizek led the team in RBIs, plating four in eight at bats. The S&T pitching staff combined for 10 strikeouts in 14 innings pitched, only allowing three earned runs on the day.

S&T concludes their series vs the Bearcats tomorrow at 1pm, with a game at the US Ballpark in Ozark Missouri.
