ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Missouri S&T baseball delivered a complete performance Saturday, using timely hitting and dominant stretches on the mound to sweep Lewis University in a GLVC doubleheader, winning 7-4 in game one before erupting for a 13-3 victory in game two. The Miners advance to 27-12 overall, including a 20-3 mark in Great Lakes Valley Conference play.
Game 1 – Missouri S&T 7, Lewis 4
After falling behind early, Missouri S&T responded with a decisive swing in momentum, plating four runs in the third inning to take control of the opener.
The Miners capitalized on opportunities, stringing together hits and taking advantage of free passes to flip a 1-0 deficit into a 4-1 lead. Bricen Smith (Perry, GA/Mount de Sales Academy) and Garrett Meyer (Jacksonville, IL/Jacksonville) each delivered RBI singles, while Denton Damgaard (Colorado Springs, CO/Cheyenne Mountain HS) added an RBI to cap the rally.
Lewis battled back, tying the game at 4-4 through four innings, but Missouri S&T answered immediately in the fifth. A heads-up baserunning sequence sparked the offense before
Will Muench (Wentzville, MO/Timberland) delivered the biggest hit of the game, a two-run double that gave the Miners a 7-4 lead they would not relinquish.
Muench led the offense with a 3-for-4 performance and two RBI, while Nick Krodinger added two hits and scored a run.
On the mound, Dylan Bates (O'Fallon, MO/Fort Zumwalt West) remained perfect on the season, improving to 8-0 after tossing five innings, allowing four runs while striking out four. The bullpen locked things down late, with
Dylan Wipf (Oak Park, IL/River Forest) closing the door and striking out three over the final 1.1 innings to earn the save.
Game 2 – Missouri S&T 13, Lewis 3
Missouri S&T wasted no time setting the tone, jumping out to an early lead before delivering a game-breaking third inning that put the contest out of reach. The Miners scored eight runs in the frame, capitalizing on hits, walks, and defensive miscues to build an overwhelming advantage.
Bricen Smith (Perry, GA/Mount de Sales Academy) powered the offense with a three-hit, three-RBI performance, including a two-run home run to open the scoring. Aiden Cizek (Wildwood, MO/Lafayette) added three hits and two RBI, while Garrett Meyer (Jacksonville, IL/Jacksonville) drove in two and reached base four times.
Missouri S&T finished with 15 hits and aggressive baserunning, swiping multiple bags and constantly applying pressure on the Lewis defense.
On the mound, Andrew Hedgecorth delivered a complete performance, going the distance with seven innings while allowing three runs and striking out seven to go 4-2 on the season.
