ROLLA, MO -- Missouri S&T Baseball produced runs in the middle innings Sunday afternoon, putting up six between the 4th and 6th, but ultimately fell to Grand Valley State, 27–6 in game two of the series against the #8 team in the nation.
Grand Valley State struck first with runs in the opening two innings before breaking the game open with a six-run fourth inning to take an early 8–0 lead. The Miners answered in the bottom half of that inning with one of their strongest offensive stretches of the afternoon. After singles by
Nick Hooper (Grain Valley, MO/Grain Valley) and
Drew Baugus (Kirkwood, MO/Kirkwood) set the table,
Bricen Smith (Perry, GA/Mount de Sales Academy) lined a two-run single to right field to put S&T on the board.
Garrett Meyer (Jacksonville, IL/Jacksonville) followed with a sacrifice fly to bring home another run and trim the deficit to 8-3.
Missouri S&T added more offense in the sixth. Smith and Garrett Meyer (Jacksonville, IL/Jacksonville) both reached before Brennon Wibbenmeyer (St. Charles, MO/Francis Howell) singled to load the bases. Smith scored in the next at bat on a wild pitch before Denton Damgaard (Colorado Springs, CO/Cheyenne Mountain HS) took first on a walk. Aiden Cizek (Wildwood, MO/Lafayette) brought in a run after being hit by a pitch in the next at bat, and Jackson Evans (Overland Park, KS/Olathe North) added a sacrifice fly as the Miners added three runs in the frame.
S&T finished with eight hits on the afternoon, including a multi-hit contribution from Cizek while Smith drove in two runs to lead the lineup. Meyer aded a double and an RBI as part of the Miners' offensive effort.

The Miners conclude their series vs GVSU on Monday with a doubleheader starting at 12pm.
