Meyer Homers as Miners Face No. 8 Grand Valley State in Twin Bill

ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T baseball battled No. 8 Grand Valley State in a Monday doubleheader but fell in both contests, dropping the opener 12-2 before the Lakers secured a 14-2 win in the second game at the S&T Ballpark.

Game 1 – No. 8 Grand Valley State 12, Missouri S&T 2
Missouri S&T showed patience at the plate and broke through in the sixth inning, but Grand Valley State used two big offensive frames to take the first game of the doubleheader.

The Lakers struck early with two runs in the first before adding five runs in the third to build a 7-0 advantage. Missouri S&T responded in the bottom of the sixth inning when Cory Chostner (Columbia, MO/Hickman) scored on a sacrifice fly by Drew Baugus (Kirkwood, MO/Kirkwood). Later in the inning, Garrett Meyer (Jacksonville, IL/Jacksonville) singled to drive in Will Muench (Wentzville, MO/Timberland), cutting the deficit to 7-2.

Meyer recorded one of the Miners' two hits and drove in a run, while Caleb Horsey (Springdale, AR/Springdale) added a pinch-hit single in the seventh. Missouri S&T also drew four walks and turned a double play defensively.

Game 2 – No. 8 Grand Valley State 14, Missouri S&T 2
Missouri S&T jumped on the board early in the nightcap as Garrett Meyer (Jacksonville, IL/Jacksonville) blasted a solo home run in the first inning to tie the game at 1-1.

The Miners added another run in the fourth when Bricen Smith (Perry, GA/Mount de Sales Academy) doubled and later scored on an RBI single from Meyer, giving Meyer two RBIs on the day. Smith finished with one of Missouri S&T's three hits in the game.

Grand Valley State responded with a five-run third inning and continued to add runs throughout the contest to pull away. Despite the final score, the Miners saw solid offensive production from Meyer, who went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs, accounting for both Missouri S&T runs.

On the mound, Zander Street (Festus, MO/St. Pius X) made the start for the Miners, while Nate Donovan (Ballwin, MO/Parkway South)Jack Manninen (River Falls, WI/River Falls), and Brandon Hull (Kansas City, MO/Liberty North) combined in relief.

Missouri S&T continued to compete throughout the game, drawing two walks and turning multiple defensive outs against one of the nation's top teams.
