Miners Open Outdoor Season Strong at Miner Invitational

ROLLA, Mo. -- Missouri S&T track & field opened the 2026 outdoor season in impressive fashion, hosting the Miner Invitational at Allgood-Bailey Stadium and turning in multiple event victories, school records, and podium finishes across the two-day meet. 
 
Field Events – Day One 
The Miners wasted no time making an impact in the opening day of competition, highlighted by a pair of victories in the triple jump. 
 
On the women's side, Hailey Smith (Wentzville, MO/Timberland) claimed the title with a mark of 11.00 meters, while Justin Chadwell (Norwood, MO/Norwood) took first in the men's triple jump at 14.07 meters. 
 
In the throws, Sydney Morris (Jefferson City, MO/Calvary Lutheran) delivered a historic performance in the hammer throw, winning the event with a school-record mark of 50.25 meters. The throw broke the previous record of 47.31 meters set by Sydney Stephens, marking a major milestone to open the outdoor season. 
 
Field Events – Day Two 
Missouri S&T continued its success in the field on Saturday with several podium finishes. 
 
In the pole vaultJenna Mueller (St. Louis, MO/Oakville) placed third in the women's competition with a clearance of 3.60 meters, while Xander Hall (Lee's Summit, MO/Lee's Summit) and Noah Misukonis finished second and third, respectively, in the men's event, each clearing 4.60 meters. 
 
Morris added to her standout weekend with a second-place finish in the discus (41.47m) and another school record in the shot put, placing second with a throw of 14.76 meters, surpassing her previous record of 13.79 meters. 
 
Luke Bass (St. Peters, MO/Fort Zumwalt South) recorded a second-place finish in the men's high jump (1.98m), while Tyler Marchert added a third-place finish in the shot put (15.39m). 
 
Track Events – Day Two 
On the track, Missouri S&T posted several strong performances, highlighted by Maya Wright (Hillsboro, MO/Hillsboro), who won the 400-meter hurdles in 1:04.97 after also placing third in the 100-meter hurdles (14.95). 
 
Mary Kimmerle (Lathrop, MO/Liberty North) added a third-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles (1:07.48), contributing to a strong showing in the event. 
 
The Miners also found success in the relays, with the men's 4x400-meter relay team of Kaiden Snyder (St. James, MO/St. James), Justin Grellner (Cedar Hill, MO/Northwest), Nathaniel White (Monroe, LA/Sterlington), and Jabbar Tanner (Blue Springs, MO/Blue Springs South) placing second with a time of 3:21.40. 
 
On the women's side, the 4x400-meter relay team of Mary Kimmerle (Lathrop, MO/Liberty North), Madeline Falls (Queen Creek, AZ/Benjamin Franklin), Maya Wright (Hillsboro, MO/Hillsboro), and Olivia Miles (Tulsa, OK/Bishop Kelley) also finished second, crossing the line in 4:02.54.

Missouri S&T travels to Bolivar, Mo. on March 27–28 to compete at the Southwest Baptist Invitational as the Miners continue the outdoor season.
