COLUMBIA, Mo. – Missouri S&T's men's cross country team finished in sixth place Friday morning, while the women's team ended up in 18
th place at the Gans Creek Classic hosted by the University of Missouri.
In the men's eight-kilometer race,
Andrew Bacon (Webster Groves, MO/Webster Groves) was the highest finisher among the Miners as he took 10
th place overall in a time of 25:09; his time was the fifth-best among the runners whose scores counted in the team competition. The top time among the scored runners came from Butler Community College's Emmanuel Otim, who posted a time of 24:43, while the winning time came from Colorado's Tanner Newkirk of 23:49.
Shaun Wolfe (Fulton, MO/Fulton) was the next Miner to cross the finish line in 66
th place among the 241 runners, as he finished the race in 26:28.
Maddox Riley (Wentzville, MO/Timberland) was third among the Miners in 72
nd place in 26:30, while
Tate Uding (Festus, MO/Festus) was 83
rd in 26:45.4 and
Ezra Bailey (Cottleville, MO/Francis Howell Central) finished right behind him in 26:45.8 to round out the scoring spots for S&T.
The Miners' next two finishers were
Jacob Meyers (Lake St. Louis, MO/Homeschooled), who had a time of 26:53 and Will Mourning, who finished in 26:57
Indiana Wesleyan captured the team championship with a score of 72 points, while Harding, Southeast Missouri State, Butler Community College and Park finished with scores ahead of the Miners' total of 178.
Genevieve Wacker (St. Charles, MO/St. Charles West) had the top finish among the S&T women as he finished 127
th overall among the 229 runners that completed the race. Wacker posted a time of 25:05 over six kilometers, while Grace Echeviarra finished in 25:56 and Mizelle Gronewold had a time of 26:11.
S&T's top five was rounded out by
Kristen Ely (Houston, MO/Houston), who finished in 26:25 and
Scout Colvin's (Kansas City, MO/Park Hill South) mark of 26:32, while
Myra Roth (Cape Girardeau, MO/Saxony Lutheran) had a time of 26:33 and
Isabella Hacker (Breese, IL/Mater Dei) a performance of 26:34 to complete the top seven for the Miners.
Wasbhurn edged Southeast Missouri State for the team championship with a score of 96; Missouri S&T finished with a final score of 518. North Alabama's Sandra Maiyo was the individual champion with her time of 21:21.
Missouri S&T will have competitors at two meets on Oct. 11, some competing at the Lewis Crossover in Romeoville, Ill., and others in the Brian T. Simpson Invitational in Columbia.
