Miners Baseball Clinch Spot in GLVC Tournament with Wins over Lincoln

ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T Baseball clinched their spot in the GLVC Tournament with two wins against Lincoln on Friday.

Miners 6, Blue Tigers 4 (Game 1)
 
In game one of a scheduled doubleheader, S&T defeated Lincoln 6-4.

Lincoln took a 1-0 lead in the first until Missouri S&T went up 4-0 after three innings. Bricen Smith (Perry, GA/Mount de Sales Academy) led off the second with a single and stolen base. After he went to third on an error, Denton Damgaard (Colorado Springs, CO/Cheyenne Mountain HS) singled to tie the game. Jackson Evans (Overland Park, KS/Olathe North) singled and Tyler Bizzle's (Festus, MO/Festus) single made it 2-1. Drew Baugus (Kirkwood, MO/Kirkwood) put down a bunt and Evans scored on an error.

In the third, Garrett Meyer (Jacksonville, IL/Jacksonville) walked, Nick Krodinger (DeSoto, MO/DeSoto) singled and both stole a base. Damgaard scored Meyer to make the score 4-1.

The Blue Tigers made it a one-run game in the fourth before the Miners got one run back in the home half. Baugus reached on a fielder's choice and stole second. Will Beckham's (Mountain Home, AR/Mountain Home) single increased the S&T lead to 5-3.

Starter Dylan Bates (O'Fallon, MO/Fort Zumwalt West) threw 5 2/3 innings with three runs, two earned, given up on three hits and three walks. The right-hander fanned six and earned his second win of the season.

S&T made it 6-3 with a run in the sixth inning. Baugus started the inning with a walk and a stolen base. Beckham advanced him to third and Meyer singled to score him. Lincoln put up one run in the seventh to finalize the score at 6-4. 

Nick Currie (Granville, IL/Putnam County) tossed a scoreless 1/3 of an inning. Meyer picked up his second save of the season after he yielded one run in the seventh inning.

Meyer was 2-for-3 for S&T with a walk, an RBI and one run scored. Seven other S&T players picked up a hit. They totaled nine hits and four walks. Baugus took three bags, while Meyer stole two. Krodinger and Smith both took one.

Miners 22, Blue Tigers 1 (Game 2)
 
Missouri S&T scored 22 unanswered runs in game two of the doubleheader to win 22-1 over Lincoln.

The Blue Tigers scored their first and only run in the first inning. After that, it was all Missouri S&T. They scored 12 of their first 22 runs over the second and third innings. Damgaard singled in the second and Jackson Evans (Overland Park, KS/Olathe North) advanced him to second. Nick Hooper (Grain Valley, MO/Grain Valley) walked, which broke the all-time single season record for walks at Missouri S&T with his 36th of the season. Tyler Prince (Mexico, MO/Mexico) reached on a fielder's choice and Jack Bell (Andover, KS/Andover Central) walked. A wild pitch tied the game and Baugus doubled to make it 3-1. Beckham was hit by a pitch and Meyer singled to plate one. A wild pitch and an error scored two runs to make it 6-1.

The Miners doubled their score with six more runs in the third. To start the inning, Evans and Hooper both singled. Prince doubled and Bell grounded out to make the score 8-1. Baugus singled and Beckham tripled, making the score 10-1. After Meyer walked, Krodinger scored Beckham via sacrifice fly. Damgaard singled and a wild pitch scored Meyer to give S&T a 12-1 lead.
Andrew Hedgecorth (Smithville, MO/Smithville) earned his fifth win of the 2025 season and surrendered one run on a hit and two walks. He struck out four against Lincoln.

In the fifth inning, the Miners scored seven more runs. Damgaard singled to start the frame. Evans singled and a wild pitch made it 13-1. After Hooper walked, Bell singled to right field to bring across two runs. Wyatt Chandler (Boerne, TX/Samuel V. Champion) came in to pinch hit for S&T and singled for his first collegiate hit. Aiden Cizek (Wildwood, MO/Lafayette) walked and Meyer reached on a fielder's choice to plate one. Alex DiGiacinto doubled to score one and Landen Roberts (St. Clair, MO/St. Clair) plated two with his single.

Missouri S&T scored three in the sixth inning. Prince singled to begin the inning and Bell singled to advance him to second. Chandler blasted his first collegiate home run to make the score 22-1.

Senior Trey Kaberline (Gardner, KS/Gardner-Edgerton) pitched 2/3 of an inning before he handed it off to fellow senior Juan C Wu (Tegucigalpa, Honduras/Academia Los Pinares). He closed out the game for the Miners.

Baugus was 3-for-3 with one walk, two runs and three RBI. Damgaard and Prince both collected three hits. Prince and Bell both scored three times and Bell plated three runs. Evans reached base four times with two walks, two hits and two runs scored. The Miners recorded 21 hits and 11 walks. Five of their hits went for extra bases.

On the base paths, Beckham stole a bag.

With the two wins, the Miners have clinched a spot in the GLVC Tournament. It is their first time in the tournament since the 2023 season. They will find out what seed they will be after tomorrow's game against Lincoln.

What's Next

The Miners will celebrate Senior Day on Saturday afternoon at 12 p.m. Senior celebrations will begin 30 minutes before first pitch. The GLVC Tournament is scheduled for May 7-10 in Marion, Illinois.
