ALLENDALE, Mich. – Missouri S&T fell to Grand Valley State on Thursday afternoon in the first round of the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional.
Lakers 12, Miners 6
After Missouri S&T took an early 6-2 lead, Grand Valley put up 10 unanswered runs to win 12-6 at the GVSU Baseball Field.
The Miners started out the game hot as they took an early 2-0 lead in the first.
Drew Baugus (Kirkwood, MO/Kirkwood) singled, stole second and an brought him home.
Nick Krodinger's (DeSoto, MO/DeSoto) single to third base scored
Bricen Smith (Perry, GA/Mount de Sales Academy) to give S&T a 2-0 lead. A two-run homer in the bottom half tied the score at 2-2.
In the second, the Miners took a 3-2 lead.
Tyler Prince (Mexico, MO/Mexico) doubled and went to third on an error,
Jack Bell (Andover, KS/Andover Central) singled up the middle to give S&T the lead right back.
Missouri S&T stayed hot in the third as they doubled up their lead at 6-2.
Will Beckham (Mountain Home, AR/Mountain Home) singled and
Garrett Meyer (Jacksonville, IL/Jacksonville) walked. Prince blasted a three-run home run to left center field to make the score 6-2. It was Prince's seventh homer of the season.
Starter
Jake Schisler (Quincy, IL/Quincy Notre Dame) threw 4 1/3 innings and was charged with eight runs, seven earned, on eight hits and two walks. The right-hander struck out five and took his fifth loss of the season.
Nick Currie (Granville, IL/Putnam County) gave up a three-run homer in 1/3 of an inning.
After S&T took a 6-2 lead, the Lakers put up 10 unanswered runs in the next six innings to win 12-6.
Dylan Wipf (Oak Park, IL/River Forest) yielded two runs in 1 2/3 innings.
Zander Street (Festus, MO/St. Pius X) pitched the remaining 1 2/3 frames for the Miners. GVSU starter Jayden Dentler earned his 12
th win of the season with his eight innings pitched against the Miners.
Prince went 3-for-4 and was a triple shy of the cycle. He recorded three RBI and two runs scored for S&T. The Miners totaled nine hits and one walk against the Lakers. On the base paths, Baugus, Meyer and Bell all took a bag.

S&T will take on the loser of Lewis/Northwood on Friday morning at 10 a.m. CT.
