ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Missouri S&T Baseball season ended at the NCAA Midwest Regional after the Miners were topped by Lewis with a final score of 7-3.
Flyers 7, Miners 3
In an elimination game at the NCAA Midwest Regional, Lewis defeated Missouri S&T 7-3 at the GVSU Baseball Field.
After the Flyers took a 1-0 lead in the second, S&T tied the game in the third.
Jack Bell (Andover, KS/Andover Central) was hit by a pitch, stole second and went to third on a groundout.
Drew Baugus (Kirkwood, MO/Kirkwood) singled to left field to make the score 1-1. Lewis put up five runs over the fourth and fifth innings to take a 6-1 lead.
S&T starter
Andrew Hedgecorth (Smithville, MO/Smithville) was charged with five runs on six hits and one walk in 3 2/3 innings. The right-hander took his third loss of the season.
Bode Gebbink (Saint Joseph, IL/Saint Joseph-Ogden) yielded an unearned run in 2 1/3 frames.
The Miners got a run back in the bottom of the fifth inning. Bell reached on an error and
Tyler Bizzle (Festus, MO/Festus) reached on catcher's interference.
Bricen Smith (Perry, GA/Mount de Sales Academy) loaded the bases with a walk and
Nick Krodinger (DeSoto, MO/DeSoto) walked to score Bell.
In the seventh,
Aiden Cizek (Wildwood, MO/Lafayette) and Baugus both walked. Cizek went to third on an error and
Will Beckham (Mountain Home, AR/Mountain Home) singled to make the score 6-3.
S&T tried to get more offense going but the score went final at 7-3.
Jacob Cook (Shorewood, Ill./Minooka Community) surrendered a run in 1 2/3 innings.
Dylan Bates (O'Fallon, MO/Fort Zumwalt West) recorded 1 1/3 scoreless frames.
Baugus went 2-for-4 with a walk and one RBI. Krodinger walked twice and scored one run. Bell came across twice. On the bases, Baugus and Bell both took a bag.
With the loss, the Miners season had ended. They went 32-25 overall this season and 17-15 in the GLVC. S&T won the GLVC Tournament for the first time in program history this season.
What's Next
Missouri S&T will go into the offseason this summer and prepare for the Fall World Series later this year.
