MARION, Ill. – Missouri S&T Baseball took down Trevecca Nazarene on Wednesday afternoon with a season-high 18 runs.
Miners 18, Trojans 7
The Miners were on the board quickly as they went up 1-0 in the first inning.
Will Beckham (Mountain Home, AR/Mountain Home) blasted a solo home run to left field, his fifth of the season. He is on an eight-game hitting streak for the Miners.
Starter
Nate Wodka (Allen, TX/Allen) pitched two innings and yielded one run on a hit and one walk. The right-hander struck out one.
Trey Kaberline (Gardner, KS/Gardner-Edgerton) recorded a scoreless inning of relief. Kaberline earned the win, the first of his S&T career.
After the Trojans tied the game in the second, S&T put up four runs in the third inning.
Nick Krodinger (DeSoto, MO/DeSoto) walked to start the frame.
Bricen Smith (Perry, GA/Mount de Sales Academy) singled and Krodinger scored on an error. Two wild pitches brought Smith home to make the score 3-1. Following a
Tyler Prince (Mexico, MO/Mexico) walk and
Denton Damgaard (Colorado Springs, CO/Cheyenne Mountain HS) double,
Nick Hooper (Grain Valley, MO/Grain Valley) doubled to plate Prince.
S&T scored four more runs in the top of the fourth inning. Beckham started the inning with a walk and Krodinger singled. Smith doubled to left field and Prince singled to make the score 7-1. After two groundouts brought Prince to third base,
Drew Baugus (Kirkwood, MO/Kirkwood) singled to increase the S&T lead to 8-1.
Trevecca scored one run in the fourth, but the Miners scored three more runs in the fifth to increase their lead to 11-2. Beckham was hit by a pitch and stole second. Krodinger walked and Smith hit another double to score Beckham. Prince singled to make it 10-2. Damgaard walked and Hooper scored Smith via sacrifice fly.
In the sixth, S&T added three more runs. Baugus led off with a double and a
Garrett Meyer (Jacksonville, IL/Jacksonville) single scored him. Krodinger walked and Smith doubled for the third time to make the score 14-2.
Jaden Jones (St. Louis, MO/Mehlville) surrendered one run in an inning of relief.
Bryce Morgan (Benton, MO/Kelly) gave up two runs in two innings on two hits and one walk.
Dylan Wipf (Oak Park, IL/River Forest) was charged with two runs in 2/3 of an inning and
Brandon Hull (Kansas City, MO/Liberty North) yielded a run in his outing.
Cody Hazzard (Mazon, IL/Yorkville Christian) recorded 1 2/3 scoreless innings and closed out the game for the Miners.
Trevecca Nazarene scored five unanswered runs between the sixth and eighth innings to make the score 15-7. S&T got some of those back in the ninth. Krodinger singled and stole second to start the inning. Smith walked and after Alex DiGiacinto advanced them, Damgaard was hit by a pitch. A wild pitch scored Krodinger. Hooper walked followed by a Baugus walk with the bases loaded to make the score 17-7. Meyer singled to bring home
Andrew Hedgecorth (Smithville, MO/Smithville), who pinch ran for Damgaard, and increase the S&T lead to 18-7.
Smith has a career game as he went 5-for-5 with a walk, three doubles, four runs scored and four RBI. Those five hits are tied for the most in a single game in Missouri S&T history. Prince was 3-for-3 with a walk, two runs and three RBI. Baugus also had three hits with his RBI and one run scored. Krodinger walked three times with five runs scored and two hits. Meyer's seven at-bats tied an S&T record as he had two hits, two RBI and one run. Beckham homered, walked and scored three times. Baugus went 2-for-5 with one walk, a run and two RBI. The Miners totaled 18 hits, 10 walks and seven extra-base hits. Their 18 runs are the most in a game since Mar. 28, 2024.
Beckham, Krodinger and Baugus all stole a bag for the Miners.
With the win, the Miners improved to 19-13 this season.
What's Next
After the 10-game road trip, the Miners will come back home to play Drury this weekend. First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 3 p.m., followed by a doubleheader on Saturday at 12 p.m. and the finale on Sunday at 12 p.m.
