BOLIVAR, Mo. – For the first time in Missouri S&T history, Miners Golf took home first at the GLVC Championship.
The Miners, coming off a second-place finish in stroke play, faced Lewis in the first round of match play. They topped the Flyers 4-1 to move into the GLVC Championship for the second straight year.
Connor Benjamin (Nelson Bay, Australia/St. Philip's Christian College) highlighted for S&T with his 68 to defeat Cody Donovan by four strokes, the winner of stroke play.
Isaac To (Petaling Jaya, Malaysia/Real International School) took down Ty Doty with his 68, while
Nicolas Eroles (Zaragoza, Spain/IES Valdespartera) recorded a 72 to win over Dylan Gute.
Rizq Adam Rohizam (Selangor, Malaysia/Robert Louis Stevenson) won by two strokes against Ethan Hormann.
With the win, the Miners moved on to play the fourth-seeded Indianapolis on Tuesday afternoon.
S&T won 4-1 over the Greyhounds to win their first ever GLVC Championship. Benjamin and Eroles both shot a 69 to win their matchups over Cameron Young and Joseph Armfield. To put up a 71 to win by seven strokes over Drew Rowen, while Rohizam's 73 was good for a win over Jackson Watkins.
Benjamin and To were tied for second with eight birdies on day three. Eroles' 27 pars were the most in the field.
S&T claimed their first ever GLVC Championship of the program with the victory. They became the sixth active GLVC program to win the championship and the 12
th all-time.
What's Next
The Miners have received the automatic bid to the NCAA DII Midwest/Central Regional. That will take place from May 8-10 in St. Joseph, Missouri. Should they make it, the NCAA Championship is from May 19-23 in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
