Baseball Win Series over McKendree, Improve to 3rd in GLVC

ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T Baseball took the four-game series 3-1 over McKendree this weekend to improve to an 8-4 GLVC record.

Game 1: Miners 12, Bearcats 1
 
S&T opened the series with a game one 12-1 win in seven innings.

Nick Hooper (Grain Valley, MO/Grain Valley) opened the scoring after he plated Bricen Smith (Perry, GA/Mount de Sales Academy) in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead. In the second, Tyler Bizzle (Festus, MO/Festus), Drew Baugus (Kirkwood, MO/Kirkwood) and Smith all singled to load the bases. A wild pitch scored Bizzle before Garrett Meyer (Jacksonville, IL/Jacksonville) doubled to bring in two runs. Denton Damgaard (Colorado Springs, CO/Cheyenne Mountain HS) recorded an RBI groundout to make the score 5-0.

The Bearcats got a run back in the third inning before the Miners put up two more in the fourth. Nick Krodinger (DeSoto, MO/DeSoto) led off with a hit by pitch before Meyer crushed a ball to left field. It was his fourth homer of the season to increase the S&T lead to 7-1.
 
Starter Ethan Morrow (Lenexa, KS/Shawnee Mission West) threw six innings with just an unearned run surrendered on two hits and two walks. The left-hander struck out a career-high 12 batters to earn his third win of the 2025 season. Bryce Morgan (Benton, MO/Kelly) struck out one in a scoreless inning of relief.

S&T put up five more runs in the fifth frame to increase the lead to 12-1. Smith led off the frame with a triple and Krodinger tripled right after him to score Smith. Meyer and Damgaard both singled and a wild pitch plated Meyer. Hooper walked and Jack Bell (Andover, KS/Andover Central) singled to left field to score two and make it an 11-run game.

Meyer went 4-for-4 with five RBI and two runs scored in this game. He was a triple shy of the cycle and walked once. Smith tallied two hits and Bell drove in two runs. Smith and Meyer both stole two bases, while Hooper took one.

Game 2: Bearcats 4, Miners 3
 
McKendree edged Missouri S&T 4-3 in a seven-inning contest on Saturday.

After three scoreless innings to begin the game, McKendree put up a run in the top of the fourth. However, Tyler Prince (Mexico, MO/Mexico) was hit by a pitch, stole second and came across to score after Will Beckham (Mountain Home, AR/Mountain Home) singled to tie the game.

Dylan Bates (O'Fallon, MO/Fort Zumwalt West) pitched 4 1/3 innings and yielded three runs, two earned, on just one hit and two walks. He fanned seven to tie his career high.

The Bearcats made it 3-1 in the fifth inning. S&T made it 3-2 in the home half and tied the game in the sixth. Bell led off the fifth with a single and advanced to third base. Smith recorded a sacrifice fly to score Bell. Prince came across on a balk in the sixth to tie the game at 3-3.

In the seventh, McKendree took a 4-3 lead and won the game as S&T couldn't stage a comeback.

Reliever Jacob Cook (Shorewood, Ill./Minooka Community) tossed 1 2/3 scoreless innings with three punchouts. Bode Gebbink (Saint Joseph, IL/Saint Joseph-Ogden) took his first loss of the year with a run surrendered in the seventh inning.

Beckham had the only multi-hit game for S&T with two. Hooper walked twice and Prince came across two times. Baugus stole two bags for the Miners, while Prince and Beckham had one.

Game 3: Miners 8, Bearcats 1
 
Missouri S&T responded in game three with an 8-1 win in seven innings.

S&T took a 1-0 lead in the third inning. Baugus singled to right field and Alex DiGiacinto reached on an error. Jackson Evans (Overland Park, KS/Olathe North) put down a bunt to advance the runners and Bell scored Baugus on a groundout. In the fourth, Damgaard doubled and Hooper brought him home with a double to make the score 2-0.

Starter Jake Schisler (Quincy, IL/Quincy Notre Dame) recorded his third win of the season with 5 2/3 innings pitched and one run given up. He struck out two with five hits and two walks allowed.

The Miners took a 5-0 lead in the fifth inning over the Bearcats. Evans and Krodinger both singled and Meyer scored Evans with his single. Following a Prince walk, Damgaard singled to left field to score two runs.

McKendree made it 5-1 in the sixth before S&T put up three more runs in the home half. Hooper singled and Baugus reached on an error. Hooper scored on a balk and DiGiacinto reached on an error. Another error scored Baugus and put Evans on first base. Bell made the score 8-1 with a sacrifice fly.

In his second game of the day, Cook pitched 1 1/3 innings with two strikeouts and just one base runner allowed. He collected his second save of the season.

Damgaard went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run scored. Krodinger and Hooper both had two hits and Baugus came across twice. The Miners capitalized on four McKendree errors in this game.

Game 4: Miners 11, Bearcats 1
 
S&T sealed a series victory with an 11-1 win over McKendree on Sunday afternoon.

After the Bearcats took a 1-0 lead in the second, the Miners tied the score following a Beckham solo home run, his second of the season.

S&T collected six runs in the third inning to take a 7-1 lead. Smith was hit by a pitch to start the frame and Meyer singled. An error after the single scored Smith and put Meyer on third base. Meyer scored on a passed ball. Damgaard singled and Krodinger blasted a two-run home run, his third of the 2025 season. After a new pitcher came in, Beckham singled and Hooper walked. Lander Roberts scored Beckham via single and Bell drove in Hooper with a sacrifice fly.

In the fourth, the Miners made the score 9-1. Meyer walked to start the inning and Prince homered to center field. He leads the team with five home runs this season.

Andrew Hedgecorth (Smithville, MO/Smithville) threw six frames with one run given up on two hits and four walks. He struck out four to earn his second win of the season. In relief, Cody Hazzard (Mazon, IL/Yorkville Christian) tossed a scoreless seventh inning.

The Miners ended the game in the bottom of the seventh inning to win 11-1. Hooper walked, stole second and advanced to third on a groundout. Bell singled to score Hooper, stole second and advance to third on a wild pitch. He scored on a wild pitch to end the game and the series as the Miners won 11-1.

Beckham went 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Meyer recorded two hits and two runs, while Prince drove in two. Damgaard had two hits and Hooper walked three times and scored twice. Bell plated two runs in the win. Prince, Krodinger and Beckham all blasted homers for S&T. Hooper and Bell both stole a base.

With the series win, S&T moved to 14-8 overall and 8-4 in the GLVC. They sit in third place in the conference behind Lewis and Drury.

What's Next

Missouri S&T will go on the road for 10 straight games, starting with Harding on Mar. 25 at 3 p.m. They will go to Indianapolis from Mar. 28-30 followed by William Jewell on Apr 4-6. Following a contest against Trevecca Nazarene on Apr. 8, the Miners will be back home to take on Drury from Apr. 11-13.
