ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T Baseball swept Truman State this weekend with two more wins at home to close out the series.
Game 3: Miners 8, Bulldogs 0 (7 innings)
In a scheduled seven inning game, Missouri S&T shutout Truman 8-0 in game three of the series.
Jack Bell (Andover, KS/Andover Central) started the first inning with a single followed by a
Denton Damgaard (Colorado Springs, CO/Cheyenne Mountain HS) hit by pitch. Truman threw two wild pitches to give S&T an early 1-0 lead. In the second,
Garrett Meyer (Jacksonville, IL/Jacksonville) doubled and advanced to third via a
Nick Krodinger (DeSoto, MO/DeSoto) sacrifice bunt. Bell drove in Meyer with a sacrifice fly to make the score 2-0.
The Miners doubled their lead in the fourth with two more runs. Meyer led off the frame with a double and Krodinger advanced him again with a sacrifice bunt.
Nick Hooper (Grain Valley, MO/Grain Valley) walked and
Jackson Evans (Overland Park, KS/Olathe North) singled to bring Meyer home. Following an error on the shortstop, Hooper came across to score.
S&T made the score 8-0 in the fifth inning with four more runs.
Tyler Prince (Mexico, MO/Mexico) walked,
Will Beckham (Mountain Home, AR/Mountain Home) was hit by a pitch and both advanced via wild pitch. Meyer doubled for the third time in the game to score Prince. Krodinger blasted a three-run home run to increase the S&T lead to 8-0.
Starter
Jake Schisler (Quincy, IL/Quincy Notre Dame) earned his first win of the 2025 season with a complete game shutout. He yielded just one hit against the Bulldogs. Schisler struck out six batters in his outing.
Meyer went 3-for-3 with three doubles, an RBI and three runs scored for S&T. Bell, Krodinger and Evans all had one hit in the game. Out of the six S&T hits, four of them were extra-base hits. Hooper stole a bag for the Miners.
Game 4: Miners 14, Bulldogs 3 (7 innings)
The Miners won the series finale 14-3 for their highest scoring game of the early 2025 season.
Following a scoreless first inning, the Miners put up seven runs in the second inning to take a 7-0 lead. Hooper walked,
Tyler Bizzle (Festus, MO/Festus) reached on an error and
Aiden Cizek (Wildwood, MO/Lafayette) singled to make the score 1-0. After a successful double steal from Bizzle and Cizek, Bell walked to load the bases with one out. Beckham brought Bizzle across with a groundout and Damgaard walked to load the bases again. Prince and Meyer recorded back-to-back walks with the bases loaded and a wild pitch scored Damgaard. An error brought Prince home and Bizzle was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to make the score 7-0 after the second inning.
Starter
Estin McBroom (Monett, MO/Monett) left the game in the fourth inning after he threw 3 1/3 hitless innings with one punchout. Reliever
Dylan Wipf (Oak Park, IL/River Forest) gave up two runs in the fourth on a hit and three walks. The Bulldogs made the score 7-2 in the fourth.
S&T got a run back in the fifth inning. Bell singled to right field, Beckham was hit by a pitch and both players stole a bag. Bell scored on a wild pitch from Truman. After the Bulldogs responded with one in the top of the sixth, Bizzle scored Hooper in the bottom of the sixth to make the score 9-3.
Nate Wodka (Allen, TX/Allen) pitched 2 1/3 innings and surrendered one run for S&T. He struck out four batters.
Bode Gebbink (Saint Joseph, IL/Saint Joseph-Ogden) tossed 1 1/3 scoreless frames to close the game for the Miners in the seventh.
Missouri S&T walked off Truman in the seventh inning to win 14-3. Bell walked to start the frame, advanced to second on a wild pitch and went to third on a Beckham sacrifice bunt. Damgaard singled to plate Bell, Prince singled and Meyer singled to make the score 11-3. Krodinger brought across Prince via sacrifice fly. After a Hooper walk, Bizzle tripled for S&T to bring home two runs and end the game.
Bell, Damgaard, Prince and Bizzle all tallied two hits for S&T. Bizzle scored three runs and Hooper came across three times. Meyer had two RBI and two runs scored. In total, the Miners recorded 12 hits and eight walks. Bell, Beckham, Damgaard, Bizzle and Cizek all stole a base for the Miners. McBroom earned his second win of the season.
With the four wins, Missouri S&T is on a six-game winning streak and sits at 6-2 overall this season. They outscored Truman 45-4 in this four-game series.
What's Next
The Miners will go to Pittsburg State on Wednesday afternoon at 3 p.m. They will return home from Mar. 7-9 to face Missouri-St. Louis in a four-game series.
