ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Missouri S&T Baseball won their four-game series 3-1 at Maryville over the weekend, with a record broken in game three.
Game 1: Miners 5, Saints 2
Missouri S&T started off the four-game series with a 5-2 victory over Maryville.
In the first inning, Missouri S&T took a 1-0 lead following a
Garrett Meyer (Jacksonville, IL/Jacksonville) solo home run.
Andrew Hedgecorth (Smithville, MO/Smithville) singled in the third and Nick Krodginer walked. After Meyer loaded the bases,
Tyler Prince (Mexico, MO/Mexico) singled to center field to score two runs and make the score 3-0.
Starter
Ethan Morrow (Lenexa, KS/Shawnee Mission West) pitched six scoreless innings for S&T and yielded just four hits. The left-hander struck out eight and earned his second win of the 2025 season.
The Miners scored two more runs in the sixth inning. Meyer singled to start the frame, Prince walked and
Will Beckham (Mountain Home, AR/Mountain Home) put down a bunt but reached first on an error.
Bricen Smith (Perry, GA/Mount de Sales Academy) walked with the bases loaded and
Tyler Bizzle (Festus, MO/Festus) drove in Prince via sacrifice fly to increase the lead to 5-0.
In relief,
Nate Wodka (Allen, TX/Allen) tossed 1 2/3 innings and gave up two runs on two hits and one walk.
Bode Gebbink (Saint Joseph, IL/Saint Joseph-Ogden) tallied his first save of the season with a scoreless 1 1/3 innings.
Meyer went 2-for-3 with a walk, two runs and an RBI for the Miners. Prince drove in two runs, while Smith and Bizzle both plated one run. Hedgecorth, Meyer, Smith and
Drew Baugus (Kirkwood, MO/Kirkwood) all stole a bag for S&T.
Game 2: Saints 12, Miners 1
In a seven-inning contest, S&T put up their only run in the second inning. Prince led off the frame with a single and Beckham doubled to left to score Prince and make the score 1-0.
Dylan Bates (O'Fallon, MO/Fort Zumwalt West) took his first loss of the season following 3 2/3 innings with two runs surrendered.
Lucas Riebeling (Columbia, IL/Columbia) tossed two frames with a run yielded and
Cody Hazzard (Mazon, IL/Yorkville Christian) was charged with four runs, two earned, in one inning.
Trey Kaberline (Gardner, KS/Gardner-Edgerton) gave up five unearned runs in the seventh inning to give the Saints a 12-1 victory.
Prince, Beckham,
Aiden Cizek (Wildwood, MO/Lafayette), Bizzle and Smith all had a hit for the Miners. Beckham had the only extra-base hit for the Miners in this game.
Game 3: Miners 17, Saints 11
S&T won a slugfest over Maryville 17-11 in game three. They recorded a new record in runs in one inning with 16 in the fourth.
Maryville took a 6-0 lead heading into the fourth off S&T starter Hedgecorth. He was charged with six runs, five earned, on seven hits and three walks.
To start the historic fourth inning, Beckham singled and
Nick Hooper (Grain Valley, MO/Grain Valley) was hit by a pitch.
Landen Roberts (St. Clair, MO/St. Clair) put down a sacrifice bunt to advance both runners.
Jackson Evans (Overland Park, KS/Olathe North) singled to plate Beckham and Baugus was hit by a pitch. Smith scored a run on a fielder's choice and Krodinger made it 6-3 with a walk. Meyer singled, Prince was hit by a pitch and Beckham singled to tie the game at 6-6. Hooper brought two runs across via single and Roberts loaded the bases. Evans was hit by a pitch and an error scored Evans to make the score 10-6. Baugus singled up the middle to plate two runs, followed by a Smith and Krodinger hit by pitch to load the bases again. Meyer grounded out to score one and Prince capped off the inning with a three-run home run to make the score 16-6. It's the most runs in a single inning for the Miners since their 15-run frame on Feb. 22, 2009, against Augustana. That was also in the fourth inning.
Nick Currie (Granville, IL/Putnam County) won the game for S&T after he yielded one run in two innings. He struck out two to earn his second win of the season.
Michael Streb (St. Louis, MO/Oakville) gave up a run in 1/3 of an inning before
Jacob Cook (Shorewood, Ill./Minooka Community) surrendered three runs in one inning. Gebbink closed out the game with a scoreless 2/3 of an inning.
S&T made the score 17-8 in the top of the seventh. Beckham walked, Hooper singled and Evans grounded into a double play to bring Beckham home.
Prince was 1-for-3 with a walk, two runs scored and four RBI. Beckham tallied three runs with two hits and an RBI. Hooper and Roberts both had two hits. Meyer, Evans and Baugus all recorded two RBI. As a team, S&T had 12 hits and six walks. Prince had the only extra-base hit, a homer in the fourth inning. Beckham stole a bag and seven different S&T players were hit by a pitch.
Game 4: Miners 6, Saints 1
In the series finale on Sunday, the Miners won 6-1 over the Saints in a seven-inning contest.
S&T put up all six runs over the first three innings. Krodginer walked to start the first and Prince launched a two-run homer to right, his fourth home run of the season. In the second, Hooper doubled down the right field line and Bizzle brought him home to make the score 3-0.
The Miners doubled their lead with three more runs in the third frame. Krodinger tallied a leadoff home run, his second of the season. Meyer and Prince both walked, and Beckham singled to load the bases. Hooper and Alex DiGiacinto both grounded out to make the score 6-0.
Jake Schisler (Quincy, IL/Quincy Notre Dame) threw all seven innings for S&T and only yielded one run on three hits and one walk. He punched out four batters on 98 total pitches thrown.
Bizzle went 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Miners. Prince had a homer, one walk, two RBI and two runs scored. Krodinger walked twice, came across twice and homered. Baugus stole a bag for S&T.
With the three wins, the Miners moved to 11-7 overall with a 5-3 GLVC record. Through two weeks, the Miners are in seventh place in the conference.
What's Next
S&T will take the week off until they welcome McKendree this weekend. First pitch on Friday is slated for 2 p.m. After that series, they are on the road for 10 straight games, starting with Harding on Mar. 25 at 4 p.m.
