OWASSO, Okla. – Missouri S&T Golf finished tied for second out of eight teams at the Hillcat Classic this week.
In the two-day event, the Miners shot 54 total holes with 36 on Monday and the final 18 on Tuesday.
Cole Komyati (Elberta, AL/Bayside Academy) and
Nicolas Estrada (Zaragoza, Spain/IES Valdespartera) both led S&T in the first round with a score of 70. They both recorded five bridies in the first round. In round two,
Connor Benjamin (Nelson Bay, Australia/St. Philip's Christian College) shot a 68 to lead the team, while
Isaac To (Petaling Jaya, Malaysia/Real International School) was right behind with a 69. Benjamin collected five birdies in the round.
In the final round, Komyati led the Miners with a 68 to shoot -2 between all three rounds. He collected five birdies and an eagle on a par 5.
Komyati finished in third place with a -2. It's his second top three finish in the spring season. Benjmain was tied for sixth as he shot even between the three rounds. To rounded out the top 10 with his 10
th place finish. Estrada and
Rizq Adam Rohizam () both finished in 22
nd.
Joey Friedel (St. Peters, MO/Fort Zumwalt South) finished in 34
th place for Missouri S&T.
It is S&T's sixth top three finish of the 2024-25 season and their third consecutive top two finish. They have started out the spring schedule strong with a win at the Saddlebrook Spring Kickoff last week and a second-place finish at the Hillcat Classic.
What's Next
The Miners will continue their busy March next week as they play in the Findlay Spring Invitational from Mar. 24-25 in Richmond, Kentucky. Just a few days later from Mar. 29-31, the Miners play in the Ashland Spring Invitational.
