ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T Baseball took down Truman twice on Saturday afternoon to open their four-game series.
Game 1: Miners 13, Bulldogs 0 (7 innings)
In a seven-inning contest, Missouri S&T blanked Truman 13-0 in the first home game of the 2025 season.
S&T put up six runs in the first inning to set the tone over Truman.
Jack Bell (Andover, KS/Andover Central) reached on an error and advanced to third base followed by a
Nick Krodinger (DeSoto, MO/DeSoto) hit by pitch to start the inning.
Denton Damgaard (Colorado Springs, CO/Cheyenne Mountain HS) doubled to score Bell and
Tyler Prince (Mexico, MO/Mexico) blasted a three-run home run to make the score 4-0. After a
Garrett Meyer (Jacksonville, IL/Jacksonville) single,
Nick Hooper (Grain Valley, MO/Grain Valley) hit a two-run homer to increase the Miners lead to 6-0.
To start the second inning, Prince, Meyer, Hooper and
Andrew Hedgecorth (Smithville, MO/Smithville) all walked to make the score 7-0. Alex DiGiacinto reached on a fielder's choice and
Drew Baugus (Kirkwood, MO/Kirkwood) reached on an error to further increase the Miners lead to 9-0 in the second inning.
An inning later, Prince walked, stole second and came across on a Meyer single. He advanced to second, stole third base and scored on a Hedgecorth single. In three frames, the Miners had an 11-0 lead.
S&T loaded the bases to begin the fourth inning with a walk from both Bell and Krodginer and a Damgaard hit by pitch. Prince was hit by a pitch to plate Bell and Krodginer scored on a wild pitch to make the score 13-0.
Starter
Ethan Morrow (Lenexa, KS/Shawnee Mission West) pitched all seven innings for Missouri S&T to earn his first win of the year. He yielded two hits and two walks on 104 total pitches thrown. His 11 punchouts marked a new career high.
Prince went 1-for-2 with a home run, two walks, three runs and four RBI. Meyer went 2-for-3 with three runs, two walks and an RBI. Hooper and Hedgecorth both scored two runs, while Bell and Krodinger both came across twice. S&T had five stolen bases, nine hits and 10 walks.
Game 2: Miners 10, Bulldogs 1 (7 innings)
In the second game of Saturday's doubleheader, the miners won 10-1 in seven frames.
Hedgecorth started the game for S&T and got into a bases loaded jam in the first inning. However, he caught a runner stealing home to end the frame. He pitched five total innings for the Miners with no runs surrendered on three hits and four walks. Hedgecorth struck out five and earned his first win of 2025.
S&T took the lead in the third inning over Truman 3-0.
Will Beckham (Mountain Home, AR/Mountain Home) walked and Damgaard singled to start the inning. Meyer reached on a fielder's choice and an error scored Beckham. Krodinger singled for S&T to score two runs and make the score 3-0.
In the fourth,
Bricen Smith (Perry, GA/Mount de Sales Academy) singled, stole second and scored on an error. To start the fifth inning, Damgaard walked and Meyer singled. Krodinger singled to plate Damgaard to make the score 5-0. Smith doubled for S&T to bring home both runs and increase the lead to 7-0.
Bell singled to lead off the sixth inning and
Aiden Cizek (Wildwood, MO/Lafayette) singled as a pinch hitter. Damgaard brought Bell home via sacrifice fly. Following a Cizek stolen base and a Prince walk, Meyer plated Cizek with a sacrifice fly. Krodinger walked and Hooper singled to make the score 10-0.
Reliever
Bode Gebbink (Saint Joseph, IL/Saint Joseph-Ogden) tossed a scoreless sixth inning for S&T with two punchouts.
Bryce Morgan (Benton, MO/Kelly) yielded a run in his seventh inning.
Smith went 3-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored for the Miners. Damgaard had two hits with two runs and Krodinger brought in three runs on his two hits. In total, S&T had 12 hits and four walks in the second game of the series. They took three bags in the game.
What's Next
The Miners will end the series on Sunday afternoon in another doubleheader at 12 p.m. and 3 p.m. versus the Bulldogs. Following those games, they will go to Pittsburg State on Mar. 5 at 3 p.m. They will come back home next weekend to face Missouri-St. Louis from Mar. 7-9.
