ROLLA, MO -- Add another one in the win column for Missouri S&T, as they took down the Indianapolis Greyhounds 93-77 to remain undeafeated at home this season.
Lovell Williams (Rogers, MN/Maple Grove) went off for a season-high 26 points today, leading an offensive push in the second half that saw the Miners shoot 64.3% from the three.
Miner fans filled the stands again for today's game against UIndy, with 676 in attendance. The Hounds jumped out to a small lead after the Miners started the game 0-4 from the field before S&T found their rhythm with a 9-0 run. Indianapolis would reclaim the lead though, with a pair of threes helping put them up 14-9.
The Hounds would hold a slim lead for the next several minutes, until a technical foul by #2 Amoako opened the door for the Miners to tie the game at 16-16. There would be three ties and four lead changes in the ensuing minutes, with S&T eventually grabbing and holding a slim lead after a
Blaise Beauchamp (Minnetonka, MN/Hopkins) three. The Greyhounds would go ahead again in the final minutes of the first half, ending it on a 10-3 run and entering halftime up 44-41.
The Miners hit early and often from the three to start the second half, with Williams knocking down a pair and
Andrew Young (Ballwin, MO/Marquette) hitting a third in the opening minutes of the second half to take a 54-48 lead. Indianapolis stuck around though, not letting the Miners get ahead by more than seven for several minutes. Another three from Beauchamp at 11:09 would give the Miners their first double digit lead of the game at 64-54 though.
The Greyhounds would whittle the Miners lead down to 6 twice in the ensuing minutes, but Williams led to Miner's efforts to hold the lead, recording seven points and a block in under 90 seconds to help push S&T's lead to 11. The Hounds were never able to recover in the final seven minutes, trailing by double digits the rest of the way as the Miners improved to 18-0 and 12-0 in conference.
William's 26 points ties with Young's from a week ago for the highest scoring performance by a Miner this season. Young had another strong showing today, recording 19 points and 7 rebounds. The Miners standout second half from the three was led by Young and Williams as each knocked down three, while
Ryan Sroka (Lake in the Hills, IL/Huntley),
Aidan Burns (Thayer, MO/Thayer), and Beauchamp all hit as well.
What's Next
Trips to Quincy and Fayette are in store of S&T next week as they face the Hawks on Thursday and the Peacocks on Saturday.
