Men's Basketball Downs the Hawks 91-82

QUINCY, IL  --  The wins keep rolling in for the Miners, with S&T defeating the Hawks 91-82 earlier tonight to improve to 19-1 and 13-0 in-conference. It was a career night for both Andrew Young (Ballwin, MO/Marquette) and Lovell Williams (Rogers, MN/Maple Grove), with Young recording his 100th block and Williams surpassing 1,500 total career points between his time with the Miners and the Wisconsin-Stout Blue Devils.

The Hawks' only lead of the game came off their first bucket, giving them a 2-1 advantage at 18:57. However, the Miners quickly responded with a 7-0 run to take an 8-2 lead. Later, a 6-0 run by S&T stretched their advantage to 19-10. The Miners would hold onto that lead for a while until the Hawks mounted a 9-1 run, cutting the lead to just one point. It took some time, but the Miners eventually regained control, with Alex Benassi (Lee's Summit, MO/Lee's Summit) hitting a three-pointer to push the lead back to eight in the final minutes of the quarter.

Starting the second half with a six-point lead, the Miners nearly doubled their advantage in the first three minutes as Young scored the first 11 points, putting S&T up by 13. Quincy locked in defensively over the next eight minutes, preventing the Miners from extending their lead significantly and even cutting the deficit to one on two separate occasions. At 10:32 left, back-to-back threes from Aidan Burns (Thayer, MO/Thayer) and Blaise Beauchamp (Minnetonka, MN/Hopkins) pushed the Miners' lead to 17, their largest of the game. The Hawks never threatened again, only managing to get within single digits in the final seconds.

Young led the Miners with 19 points, but it was Williams' all-around performance that stood out. He recorded his 7th career double-double with 18 points, 10 assists, 8 rebounds, and 2 blocks. Cameron Stovall (St. Louis, MO/Vashon) also came close to a double-double, contributing 12 points and 9 rebounds.
