QUINCY, Ill. — No. 5 Missouri S&T men's basketball remained unbeaten on the season, improving to 5–0 overall and 2–0 in GLVC play with an 82–72 road win over Quincy on Thursday night at Pepsi Arena.
The Miners controlled the game from start to finish, taking a 37–30 lead into halftime before powering through a 45-point second half to stay in front. S&T shot 47.6 percent from the field and asserted its presence inside with 44 points in the paint, while also converting 15 points off turnovers to maintain momentum throughout the contest.
Offensively, the Miners again showcased their balance. Andrew Young (Ballwin, MO/Marquette) led S&T with 17 points, knocking down three threes and adding four rebounds. Blaise Beauchamp (Minnetonka, MN/Hopkins) matched him with 17 points of his own, going 7-for-8 at the free-throw line while distributing five assists.
Alex Benassi (Lee's Summit, MO/Lee's Summit) added 12 points and six rebounds, and Darron Henry (Long Beach, CA/Long Beach Poly) provided a major lift off the bench with a season high 13 points on 5-of-9 shooting. The Miners' depth stood out once again, with the bench contributing 24 points.
Defensively, S&T held Quincy to just 28.6 percent from three-point range and won the rebounding battle 41–39, limiting second-chance opportunities and maintaining control of the tempo.
Quincy threatened midway through the second half, trimming the margin to four, but the Miners responded with an 11–2 run sparked by Young and Henry to restore a double-digit cushion. S&T then closed the game at the foul line, with Beauchamp and Henry combining to hit all eight of the team's free throws in the final 90 seconds.
