Young’s Double-Double Highlights Miners’ Tough Road Battle at Upper Iowa

FAYETTE, Iowa – No. 5 Missouri S&T men's basketball showed resilience throughout a high-level GLVC matchup but came up short in an 87–80 road loss to Upper Iowa on Saturday afternoon at Dorman Memorial Gym. The Miners move to 5–1 overall and 2–1 in conference play.

S&T came out firing, building a 45–34 halftime lead behind efficient shooting and strong ball movement. The Miners shot 65.5 percent in the opening half and knocked down six three-pointers to take control early. But Upper Iowa responded with a big second half, outscoring S&T 53–35 as the Peacocks heated up from long range and capitalized on key possessions down the stretch.

Andrew Young (Ballwin, MO/Marquette) delivered a dominant performance, finishing with 26 points and 12 rebounds for his best outing of the season. The senior shot an impressive 11-for-15 from the field and added three assists, two blocks, and a stea. Blaise Beauchamp (Minnetonka, MN/Hopkins) added 20 points while going 5-for-5 from the free-throw line, giving the Miners steady scoring in the backcourt.

Cameron Stovall (St. Louis, MO/Vashon) chipped in 12 points and five rebounds, and Alex Benassi (Lee's Summit, MO/Lee's Summit) added 10 points with four assists, as all five starters contributed offensively. S&T finished the afternoon shooting an efficient 50 percent from the floor and grabbed 36 rebounds to stay competitive throughout.

Despite the loss, the Miners continued to show their depth, scoring 10 points off the bench and creating 11 points off Upper Iowa turnovers. Young's layup with 7:12 remaining trimmed the deficit to one, but Upper Iowa answered with timely threes and free throws to pull away in the closing minutes.
