1/14/2025 12:30:00 PM

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO  --  The Miners had a strong showing from both men's and women's track & field at Saturday's Redhawks Invitational. Ten different personal-bests were set by returners across five different events.

Paulvin Horton (Raleigh, NC/Garner HS) had the best finish of any Miner at the meet, taking first in the triple jump with a mark of 13.72m. He was joined in the top five by Justin Chadwell (Norwood, MO/Norwood) and Tristan Jones (Hillsboro, MO/Hillsboro) who finished in 2nd and 4th. Meanwhile, Hailey Smith (Wentzville, MO/Timberland) had the best finish on the women's team with 2nd place in the triple jump. The triple was not the only jump in which the Miners found success, as the men and women combined for ten top 10 finishes in the long jump and the high jump, with Luke Bass (St. Peters, MO/Fort Zumwalt South) finishing third in the latter.

Duane Carter (Trussville, AL/Hewitt Trussville) set personal bests in both the shot put and the weight throw, finishing in eighth place for both. Ethan Crouch (Rolla, MO/Rolla) finished above Carter in the shot put (5th place) and in the weight throw (7th place). Kevin McCole (St. Charles, MO/Francis Howell) came in 6th for the men in weight throw, the highest finish for the men, but it was Sydney Morris (Jefferson City, MO/Calvary Lutheran) who had the best finishes by a Miner thrower, placing 4th in both the shot put and the weight throw.

Maya Wright (Hillsboro, MO/Hillsboro) finished 4th in the 55m hurdles with a personal-best time of 8.64 seconds, her first of two PBs on the day with the second coming in shot put. Wright's personal best in the shot put was enough to earn her 8th place with three Miners finishing above her as Morris took 4th, Madalaine Fischer took 6th, and Alexis Lay (Pacific, MO/Pacific) took 7th.
