ROLLA, Mo. — Afxentis Andreou's (Paphos, Cyprus/Lykeo Agios Charalambous) goal in the 22nd minute was the deciding factor in tonight's 1-0 win over Northeastern State.
The Miners took control of the pace at the start of the match, pressuring NSU's defense early. In the 9th minute, Caiden Harris (St. Louis, MO/St. Louis University High) sent a shot into the back right of the net off of a pass, but was called offsides, negating the goal.
Thirteen minutes later, Andreou scored what would be the only goal of the match. The goal came on a chip into the box by S&T that was cleared out towards Andreou, who took it off of a high bounce for a highlight-worthy goal that found the top right corner.
Northeastern played down a man for a significant part of the second half after one of their players received a second yellow card. Despite the handicap, they made several strong pushes towards S&T's goal in the waning minutes of the match, but were unable to draw even as the Miners came away with the 1-0 victory.
What's Next
The Miners travel to Owensboro, Kentucky for their next match which will take place on Sunday at 2pm against Kentucky Wesleyan.
