ROLLA, Mo. – Junior midfielder João Vieira of the Missouri S&T men's soccer team has been named the 2025 Fall Scholar-Athlete of the Year for men's soccer by the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC), the league office announced Tuesday.
Vieira was one of six student-athletes across four GLVC institutions to earn Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors for the fall season. The award recognizes one student-athlete in each conference-sponsored sport based on athletic achievement and academic excellence. Nominees must hold at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average, meet College Sports Communicators Academic All-America® standards, and are voted on by the league's Faculty Athletics Representatives.
A native of Punta del Este, Uruguay, Vieira played a pivotal role in leading the Miners to a 9-6-3 overall record and a 7-5-2 mark in GLVC play, securing the seventh seed in the GLVC Championship Tournament. He started 13 matches and ranked 10th in the conference in goals (6) while finishing 12th in total points (14).
For his efforts on the pitch, Vieira was named to the All-GLVC First Team and earned D2CCA All-Region Second Team honors.
In the classroom, Vieira achieved a perfect 4.0 semester GPA and maintains a 4.0 cumulative GPA as an economics major. He was also recognized as a CSC Academic All-American® First Team selection, further highlighting his excellence both academically and athletically.
Vieira becomes the latest Miner to earn GLVC Scholar-Athlete of the Year distinction, continuing Missouri S&T's tradition of producing high-achieving student-athletes who excel in competition and in the classroom.
