ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T men's soccer opened and dominated the first match of conference play Friday evening against the Upper Iowa Peacocks.
The Miners improved to 3-0 overall and 1-0 in conference play with the win, controlling much of the match offensively while keeping Upper Iowa off the scoreboard.
Missouri S&T broke through in the 38th minute when
Kellen Douglas (St. Louis, MO/Lindbergh) found the back of the net to give the Miners a 1-0 lead. Douglas' goal was the only scoring of the night as S&T carried the advantage into halftime.
The Miners continued to apply pressure throughout the second half, outshooting Upper Iowa 15-4 after halftime and finishing the match with a 26-6 advantage in shots. S&T also held a 10-1 edge in corner kicks.
Cavitt Bruhn (Plano, TX/Plano) made one save in goal for the Miners, recording his third consecutive start and helping S&T secure its third straight victory.
The match became increasingly physical in the final 15 minutes, with both teams battling for possession and momentum. Upper Iowa was shown a red card in the 76th minute, leaving the Peacocks to finish the match with 10 players.
Despite the increased intensity, Missouri S&T maintained its composure and held on for the shutout.
What's Next
The Miners return to action on the road at William Jewell with a 3-0 record and a 1-0 mark in conference play. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m.
