ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T Men's Soccer will wrap up non-conference play and start the full GLVC slate this weekend against Davenport and at Drury.
Match 1: Missouri S&T (3-1) vs. Davenport (2-1-1), Sept. 20 at 2 p.m.
Davenport comes into this game 2-1-1 with their most recent win over #11 Tiffin. That upset was the first time that Davenport defeated a nationally ranked opponent at home as a GLIAC member. Cam Power equalized the score in the 53
rd minute and Easton Lopez netted his fourth of the season in the 79
th minute.
The Miners are 0-1-0 against the Panthers in their all-time matchup. In the GLIAC preseason coaches' poll, Davenport was picked fourth out of seven total teams. They ended the 2023 season with a 6-5-5 record and 4-3-3 conference record. At the conference tournament, they defeated Northern Michigan in the first round but fell to Purdue Northwest in the semifinals. Lopez currently leads the team with four goals and five shots on goal.
Match 2: Missouri S&T (3-1) at Drury (3-0-1), Sept. 22 at 2:30 p.m.
The Miners will start the full GLVC slate at Drury on Sunday. The Panthers already won their first conference game against UMSL this past Sunday. In that game, a goal from Lucas Schofield in the 12
th minute carried Drury to a 1-0 victory. They have also defeated Northeastern State and Newman after they drew their opener with Oklahoma Christian.
In their head-to-head record, Drury leads the Miners 16-9-2 since 1992. S&T fell to Drury last season 2-1 at Allgood-Bailey Stadium.
Mike Banasik (Loekkegade, Denmark/Hjoering Gymnasium) scored a goal for the Miners in that game. Drury fell in the GLVC tournament last year to Illinois Springfield in the quarterfinals. They ended the season with a 4-9-5 record and 4-6-3 GLVC record.
About the Miners
The Miners are 3-1 on the season and 2-0 at home through four contests. They fell to Union this past Friday after wet grounds ended the game. Against Lincoln on Sunday,
Luke Giesing (St. Louis, MO/Lindbergh) scored his first collegiate goal for the Miners as they took down the Blue Tigers 1-0.
S&T has four different goal scorers this season in Giesing,
Afxentis Andreou (Paphos, Cyprus/Lykeo Agios Charalambous),
Luiz Bernis (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/Colegio Santo Antonio) and
Nathan Weyrauch (Lee's Summit, MO/Lee's Summit). Banasik leads the team with eight shots and four shots on goal. Goalkeeper
Cavitt Bruhn (Plano, TX/Plano) has a 0.52 GAA after four matches this season.
What's Next
Following the Drury game, S&T will continue their longest road trip of the season as they will travel to Maryville on Sept. 27 and UMSL on Sept. 29. They will return home to face Illinois Springfield on Oct. 4 and McKendree on Oct. 6. Tickets for those matches can be found here.
