Aidan Burns Scores Career-High in Miners Sixth Straight Win

ROLLA, Mo.  --  Missouri S&T defeated the Quincy Hawks 72-55 in Gibson Arena today, improving to 6-0 for the first time since the 2016-17 season.

The Miners started strong in tonight's contest, shooting 51.5% in the first half. Seven minutes into the game, S&T had already opened a sizable lead, going up 14-3 on the Hawks. Quincy would cut the deficit to six points at 10:17, but three-pointers from Burns and Blaise Beauchamp (Minnetonka, MN/Hopkins) gave the Miners a 12-point lead; their largest lead of the game. They would continue to build their lead over the final minutes of the first half, going into the locker room up 42-23 at the half.

S&T was without Lovell Williams (Rogers, MN/Maple Grove) in the second half who exited the contest due to injury after recording 4 points and 3 assists in the first half. After only converting on 21.2% of their attempts in the first half, the Hawks hit seven of their first ten attempts to open the second half. Meanwhile, the Miners went stone cold in the opening seven minutes of the half, missing six straight shots as their lead was cut from 19 to 6.

Alex Benassi (Lee's Summit, MO/Lee's Summit) and Burns would help restart the Miners offense around the 13-minute mark, combining for seven points to help S&T push their lead back to twelve again. The Miners would not relinquish their double-digit lead for the remainder of the contest, pulling ahead by as many as twenty before closing out the game in a 72-55 victory.

True freshman Aidan Burns (Thayer, MO/Thayer) led the Miners in scoring with 17. He is the first true freshman to lead the Miners in scoring since Andrew Young (Ballwin, MO/Marquette) did so against William Jewell on January 28th, 2023. Andrew Young (Ballwin, MO/Marquette) had his second double-double in a row and his third of the season, putting up 12 points and 12 rebounds.
