S&T Women's Volleyball Swept Against Maryville

ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T Women's Volleyball was swept by Maryville on Saturday afternoon at Gibson Arena.

The Saints started out the match with a dominating 25-15 first set victory. After S&T collected an early lead, Maryville recorded five points in six attempts to go up 9-7. The two teams were back-and-forth until the Miners went down 18-13. Maryville picked up seven of the last nine points to win 25-15.

In the second set, the Miners got closer but still fell to the Saints 25-23. Both the Miners and Saints traded points early but S&T recorded a seven-point run to go up 13-8. However, the Saints responded with a five-point run to tie up the score at 14-14. Both teams traded points until the match was tied 23-23. Two kills from Saints OH Ella Brinkmann gave them a 25-23 victory.

Maryville won the match with a 25-23 third set win. Maryville went down to the Miners early as S&T took a 7-5 lead that turned into 10-7. The Saints responded with a four-point run to take a lead. Since that point, the two teams traded runs the rest of the set. After Maryville took an 18-16 lead, the Miners responded once again with three points. S&T took a 23-21 lead, but the Saints closed them out with four consecutive points to win the match 3-0.

Alina Carrillo (Oviedo, FL/Hagerty) led the team with 13 kills and 13 digs for another double-double. Her .375 hitting percentage also led the team. Madison Offerman (Herscher, IL/Herscher) hit for .308 with five kills. Jordan Burton (Olathe, KS/Olathe South) and Isabelle Monaco (O'Fallon, MO/Living Word Christian) both tallied four kills. Setter Annie Arand (Washington, MO/St. Francis Borgia) led the team with 16 digs and 14 assists. Madison Smith (Boonville, MO/Boonville) had five total blocks.

With the loss, the Miners moved to 8-17 overall and 4-7 in the GLVC. S&T, Drury, McKendree and Southwest Baptist now all sit tied for the eighth spot in the GLVC standings with two matches left.

What's Next

The Miners will stay at home this week to face Truman State on Nov. 15 at 6 p.m. Senior Day is scheduled for Nov. 16 at 3 p.m. at Gibson Arena.
