ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T Men's Soccer took down Southwest Baptist on Friday night at Allgood-Bailey Stadium.
The Miners put on the pressure early with a goal in the 19
th minute. A
Joao Vieira (Punta del Este, Uruguay/International College) free kick went off a Bearcat right to
Luiz Bernis (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/Colegio Santo Antonio) who put it in. It was Bernis' second goal of the 2024 season. S&T did not have a shot on goal the rest of the half.
Five minutes into the second half, a corner kick from
Mustafa Hasan (St. Louis, MO/Lindbergh) put it to
Caiden Harris (St. Louis, MO/St. Louis University High). He gave it to
Caden Archer (St. Louis, MO/Vianney) who gave S&T a 2-0 lead. It was Archer's first goal of the season.
Luke Giesing (St. Louis, MO/Lindbergh) and
Daylan Frerker (Collinsvillle, IL/Collinsville) were both saved by goalkeeper Marco Iniguez later in the half.
The Miners got back in the win column with a 2-0 win against Southwest Baptist.
Jimmy Sanchez (St. Charles, MO/Francis Howell Central), Bernis and Giesing all recorded two shots. The only SBU shot on goal was saved by Giesing off his chest. Other than that,
Cavitt Bruhn (Plano, TX/Plano) did not make a save.
With the win, the Miners have moved up to sixth place in the GLVC standings. They sit one point behind Illinois-Springfield, who the Miners have a tiebreaker over. The Prairie Stars take on Lewis on Sunday afternoon.
What's Next
S&T will play Rockhurst on Sunday to conclude the GLVC regular season. They have not clinched a spot in the GLVC tournament yet, but a win or draw on Sunday would give them a spot.
