ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – Miners Golf finished in third place at the Midwest Regional Preview, highlighted by an
Isaac To (Petaling Jaya, Malaysia/Real International School) first place trophy.
As a team, the Miners finished +17, five behind UMSL in second and 12 behind first place Ferris State.
After the first round, S&T were in second place, one stroke behind Tiffin. As a team, S&T shot a 288, the best of the preview. To guided the Miners with a 65 in the round. That score was the second best of the course through all three rounds.
Cole Komyati (Elberta, AL/Bayside Academy) and
Nicolas Estrada (Zaragoza, Spain/IES Valdespartera) both shot a 74, and
Connor Benjamin (Nelson Bay, Australia/St. Philip's Christian College) collected a 75.
Missouri S&T dropped to fourth place in the second round after they shot a 292 collectively. Benjamin led S&T with a 69, while To kept pace in first with a 72.
In the third round, every player shot a 75 or lower to bump up the team to third place. To, Estada and
Jack Coleman (Milton Keynes, England/Walton) all shot a 72, Komyati had a 73 and Benjamin recorded a 75.
To placed first out of 85 total players with a total of 209, one stroke ahead of second place. He was one of five players that finished below par at -4. His first-round score of 65 tied a career-best after his first round at The Perkins Intercollegiate in 2023.
Benjamin followed To with a 16
th place finish. Komyati was close behind at 19
th. Estrada took 39
th and Coleman placed 50
th for the Miners.
The Miners will finish their fall slate later this month at the Bill Crabtree Invitational on Oct. 28-29. Last season in Owensboro, Kentucky, the Miners recorded first place after To placed second overall.
