SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Missouri S&T's women's basketball team was unable to match Drury's shooting throughout the afternoon Saturday and ended up on the short end of a 101-64 decision to the Lady Panthers in their Great Lakes Valley Conference contest at the O'Reilly Family Events Center.
S&T had the lead three times in the early stages of the contest, the last at 7-6 after a conventional three-point play by
Bonnie Lew Ludlow (Indianapolis, IN/Covenant Christian) just over two minutes into play. However, after making three of their first four shots from the floor to take that lead, that basket would the Miners' last from the floor for the next 6:41 as a lay-up by Katelynn Roberts ended a stretch where Drury outscored S&T 22-5.
The Lady Panthers (11-4, 6-3 GLVC) connected on 59.1 percent of their field goal attempts in the opening quarter and shot over 50 percent in each of the next two as well as they finished the afternoon at 53.6 percent.
The Miners, who were four-of-12 from the floor in the first quarter, were over the 50 percent mark over the next two periods as they went nine-of-17 in the second period and seven-of-14 in the third. S&T (3-14, 0-9 GLVC) made a run at the end of the first half as it outscored the Lady Panthers 10-3 to close the first half, getting six of those points from
Norah Gum (Waterloo, IL/Waterloo) over the final 1:44.
Gum and Roberts had 12 points apiece to lead the Miners, who ended up at 42.9 percent from the field on the day. S&T also got nine points from Ludlow and seven from
Chorus Davis (Kansas City, MO/Lincoln College Prep).
Reese Schaaf scored a career-high 29 points to lead the Lady Panthers and Caitlynn Daniels finished with 23.
Missouri S&T will return to Gibson Arena Thursday to host Rockhurst in a 5:30 p.m. contest.
