Track teams post three provisional marks, event win at Redhawks Invite

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Missouri S&T's track & field teams resumed their indoor seasons Saturday with one winning performance and three NCAA Division II provisional performances as they competed at the Redhawks Invitational at Southeast Missouri State University.

S&T got a third place performance from Kyle Burke (Plainfield, IL/Plainfield) in the 55-meter hurdles in a time of 7.80 seconds as four Miners finished among the top eight in the event.  Sam Wright (Hillsboro, MO/Hillsboro) was sixth in 8.05 seconds, while Lyke Myszka finished seventh in 8.12 and Nathan Apple (Louisburg, KS/Louisburg) in eighth in 8.16 seconds. 

Owen Fraser (Kirksville, MO/Kirksville) also had a third place showing and NCAA Division II provisional mark in the shot put with a mark of 55-9 ¼, with Ethan Crouch (Rolla, MO/Rolla) finishing sixth at 51-0 and Tyler Marchert (Frankfort, IL/Lincoln-Way East) in eighth with his throw of 49-9¾.  Meanwhile, Jacob Luebbert (Warsaw, MO/Warsaw) also hit an improved provisional mark in the weight throw with his third place finish at 66-6.

S&T had three additional top-eight finishers in the weight throw as well, with Fraser placing sixth at 54-8¾ -- also a provisional mark -- Marchert seventh at 52-11 and Kevin McCole (St. Charles, MO/Francis Howell) in eighth at 51-5¾.

Donovan Bryant (Junction City, KS/Junction City) finished fifth in the long jump with a mark of 21-2 ½, while Samuel Schmidt recorded a sixth place finish in the 55-meters with a time of 6.57 seconds and Justin Chadwell (Norwood, MO/Norwood) had a fifth place showing in the triple jump of 43-5¾ and added a seventh place performance in the long jump at 20-7¾.  A seventh place finish was also recorded by Tristan Jones (Hillsboro, MO/Hillsboro) in the triple jump with a mark of 42-0¾.  Zander Hall ended up ninth in the pole vault as he cleared 14-1¼.

The lone event win for the Miners on the day came from freshman Hailey Smith, who captured first in the women's triple jump with a mark of 36-3½.  Smith hit her winning mark on her first attempt of the afternoon and won the event by a foot and a half.

S&T also had scoring performances Saturday from Sydney Stephens in the shot put, where she placed fourth at 40-2¼  and eighth in the weight throw at 48-1¼, Elizabeth Saitz with her fifth place finish in the 55-meters in 7.38 seconds and sixth place mark in the long jump with a leap of 17-4¼ and Sydney Clark in the weight throw, where she was ninth with a mark of 45-4¼.

Missouri S&T, who finished fourth in the men's team standings and fifth on the women's side at Southeast, will compete next on Friday at the Mule Relays at the University of Central Missouri.
