ROLLA, Mo. – A late goal doomed Missouri S&T's men's soccer team Friday afternoon as Kentucky Wesleyan scored with under nine minutes remaining to come away with a 3-2 win over the Miners at Allgood-Bailey Stadium.
Jacob Boling redirected a corner kick by Zach Moore in the 82
nd minute of play to break the 2-2 tie and send S&T to its second loss in succession. The goal came just under 13 minutes after the Miners had evened the score when
Joao Vieira (Punta del Este, Uruguay/International College) drilled a direct free kick into the net.
S&T (0-2-1) took the initial lead in the game in the 13
th minute when
Sigurd Semlitsch (Oslo, Norway/Stabekk Videregaaende Skole) send a ball from the end line to the front of the box, where
Santiago Cervantes (Collierville, TN/Collierville) was there to knock it in. However, the Panthers (3-0-1) tied it 10 minutes later when Santiago Henrich took a shot from an angle that caromed off the far post and into the net.
The game remained tied until the 61
st minute, when Hannes Gronevik scored on a scramble in front of the net to give the Panthers a 2-1 advantage. But the Miners were able to even things up after getting a free kick opportunity from about 25 yards away, which Vieira put over the hands of goalkeeper Arthur Hill to even the score.
The Miners, who outshot Kentucky Wesleyan 14-9, had a couple of chances but both were off the mark.
