TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – After playing to a scoreless tie in its season opener Friday, Missouri S&T's men's soccer team dropped the second contest on its road trip Sunday afternoon when it fell by a count of 3-1 at Northeastern State.
The game was scoreless until the 19
th minute until Ivan Lopez hit a shot into the upper right corner past S&T goalkeeper
Davis Joseph (Andover, KS/Andover Central). The score remained 1-0 until nearly 10 minutes had elapsed in the second half, when the RiverHawks (1-0-1) scored twice in a span of six minutes to extend their lead to three.
Mario Sapena made it 2-0 in the 55
th minute, then Lopez posted his second goal of the game with an unassisted tally in the 61
st minute.
S&T (0-1-1) got its first goal of the season nearly four minutes later as Mike Banazik scored an unassisted goal, hitting a shot from just inside the box into the upper right corner by NSU's Ian Milla.
The Miners outshot the RiverHawks 13-11 in the contest and had six corner kick opportunities in the game. Joseph made three saves in goal in his 71-plus minutes of action, as
Cavitt Bruhn (Plano, TX/Plano) played the remaining 19 minutes.
Missouri S&T will play a pair of home games next weekend, beginning with a Friday afternoon contest against Kentucky Wesleyan at 2 p.m.
