ROLLA, Mo. – A goal late in the first half turned into the decisive tally as Missouri S&T's men's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to Drury in Great Lakes Valley Conference play Sunday afternoon at Allgood-Bailey Stadium.
Up 1-0 late in the first half, the Panthers' Lui Bull got to a long pass sent over the Miner defense and then after eluding S&T goalkeeper
Davis Joseph (Andover, KS/Andover Central), hit a shot just inside the far post to double the lead with just seven seconds remaining in the half.
The Miners (2-5-1, 1-3 GLVC) were able to cut the margin in half in the 72
nd minute shortly after a throw-in as after
Tony Petruso (O'Fallon, MO/St. Dominic) sent the ball into the box,
Shane Cairns (North Olmstead, OH/North Olmstead) headed it in the direction of Mike Banazik and he proceeded to scored on a bicycle kick.
S&T had a couple of more good chances, as Petruso had a chance stopped in the 75
th minute and
Sigurd Semlitsch (Oslo, Norway/Stabekk Videregaaende Skole) was turned away by Drury goalkeeper Camden Meyer in the 88
th minute.
Drury (1-4-3, 1-3 GLVC) got the initial goal of the contest when John Clout headed in a long throw-in by Jakob Limpert in the 21st minute.
The Miners outshot Drury 16-11 in the game and had six shots on net to the Panthers' five. Joseph made three saves in goal for S&T, who will take the field next on Friday against Rockhurst in Kansas City, Mo. Friday's game will get underway at 7:30 p.m.
