9/29/2023 10:08:00 PM

Box Score KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Missouri S&T's men's soccer team was unable to overcome an early deficit and suffered a 1-0 Great Lakes Valley Conference loss to Rockhurst.

Rockhurst, which had not scored in its previous four games, needed less than three minutes to get the first goal of the contest as Jacopo Belardo weaved through the Miner defense and sent a pass to the wing to Cristoforo LiCavoli, who got the shot by S&T goalkeeper Davis Joseph (Andover, KS/Andover Central).

The game was a tightly contested defensive battle, as the teams combined for only 17 shots.  Rockhurst held a 11-6 advantage and had six shots on goal to S&T's two; Joseph was credited with five saves.

S&T's first scoring chance came shortly after the Rockhurst goal when Jimmy Sanchez (St. Charles, MO/Francis Howell Central) sent a shot through traffic on goal, then had another chance in the 36th minute on a free kick into the box that was stopped.  S&T had another good opportunity before the half ended when it got a throw-in into the box, but the ball was cleared before the Miners could get a shot.

The Miners will remain in the Kansas City area for a Sunday match against William Jewell at 2:30 p.m. in Liberty, Mo.
