JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Missouri S&T had a pair of first place performances over the weekend at the Lincoln Open, getting top finishes from
Nathan Swadley (Willard, MO/Willard) and
Jake Anderson (O'Fallon, MO/Fort Zumwalt West) to highlight a number of top showings.
Swadley recorded the second-best outdoor shot put mark in school history Friday when he recorded a throw of 59-4¼ to win the event and improved his NCAA Division II provisional mark in the process. On Saturday, he finished second in the discus throw with a top mark of 162-6.
Meanwhile, Anderson won the pole vault as he cleared 15-3 to win the competition for the third straight time during the outdoor season.
Jacob Luebbert (Warsaw, MO/Warsaw) took second in the hammer throw with a mark of 184-7, finishing immediately ahead of Swadley's throw of 178-feet that led to a third place finish. Seconds were also recorded by
Kyle Burke (Plainfield, IL/Plainfield) in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.23 seconds and by
Hayes Pateidl (Overland Park, KS/Blue Valley West) in the 1,500-meters with a time of 3:53.29.
S&T got a third place finish from
Tyler Marchert (Frankfort, IL/Lincoln-Way East) in the shot with a mark of 50-3½, while
Ethan Crouch (Rolla, MO/Rolla) was fourth at 49-4,
Owen Fraser (Kirksville, MO/Kirksville) fifth at 48-5½ and Luebbert in sixth with a throw of 48-2¾. The Miners also got thirds from
Noah Richardson (Hillsboro, MO/Grandview) in the long jump with a leap of 22-4, Samuel Schmidt in the 200-meters in 22.07 seconds and
Samuel Patterson (Cameron, NC/Union Pines) in the 5,000-meters in 15:57.29.
S&T's 4x100-meter relay team of
Aaron Toben (Wildwood, MO/Lafayette),
Sam Wright (Hillsboro, MO/Hillsboro), Burke and Schmidt also finished third in a close race in a time of 41.76 seconds.
Fraser took fourth in the discus with a throw of 161-feet as did
Dawson Sherer (Galena, MO/Galena) in the javelin throw with a mark of 161-10 and
Joshua Patterson (Cameron, NC/Union Pines) in the 5,000-meters in 15:58.31. S&T had six of the top nine finishers in the 5,000, as
Spencer Teske (Naperville, IL/Neuqua Valley) was fifth in 16:04.89,
Jorge Cantu (Cypress, TX/Bridgeland) sixth in 16:26.39,
Caleb Schoenberg (Wentzville, MO/Timberland) seventh in 16:39.17 and Zander Kimberlin-Poole ninth in 17:39.21.
Tristan Jones (Hillsboro, MO/Hillsboro) was fifth in the triple jump with a mark of 42-6¾ and
Otto Knittel (Spring Hill, KS/Spring Hill) came in sixth with a mark of 150-3 in the javelin throw, while Toben was sixth as well in the 200-metrs in 22.57 seconds.
Michael Pate (Wildwood, MO/Lafayette) took seventh in the 400-meters in 49.57 seconds as did Wright in the 400-meter hurdles in 55.70 seconds, while
Andrew Bacon (Webster Groves, MO/Webster Groves) placed eighth in the 800-meters in 1:54.64.
Isaac Pollard (Lindale, TX/Lindale) tied for eighth in the pole vault as he cleared 12-7¾ and Knittel had a ninth place showing in the 400-meters in 50.21 seconds. Luebbert was 10
th in the discus with a mark of 139-4 and Richardson finished 10
th in the triple jump with a mark of 41-6 along with
Dylan Fritz (Ozark, MO/Ozark) in the 3,000-meters in 9:31.04. S&T's 4x400-meter relay team of
Zoran Rodriguez (Shawnee, KS/Bishop Miege),
Aaron Geissinger (Abilene, KS/Abilene), Bacon and
Ashton Ventura (Joplin, MO/Joplin) took eighth with a time of 3:38.83.
Missouri S&T will send selected individuals to various meets in southern California next week and will return to action as a full team on April 22 at the Dewey Allgood Invitational at Allgood-Bailey Stadium.
