S&T claims three firsts on second day of Miner Invitational

ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T had three winning performances Saturday afternoon as it completed its first outdoor track & field meet of the season at the Miner Invitational held at Allgood-Bailey Stadium.

Otto Knittel (Spring Hill, KS/Spring Hill) captured the decathlon with a total of 6,257 points, posting the best mark in three events and second-best in four others.  Dawson Sherer (Galena, MO/Galena) took third in the event with 5,598 points, while Kamden Lockwood (Herscher, IL/Herscher) placed fifth with 5,411.

S&T also dominated the throwing events on Saturday with five of the top seventh spots in the shot put.  Nathan Swadley (Willard, MO/Willard) won the event with a mark of 55-1½, while Owen Fraser (Kirksville, MO/Kirksville) took second at 53-4¼.  Tyler Marchert (Frankfort, IL/Lincoln-Way East) placed fourth at 49-8½, while Ethan Crouch finished sixth at 47-10¾ and Jacob Luebbert (Warsaw, MO/Warsaw) ended up seventh with a mark of 47-9½.

The Miners had four of the top eight finishers in the discus, led by Fraser's second place finish with a throw of 161-5.  Swadley took fourth with a throw of 152-11, while Marchert was sixth at 151-7 and Matthew Hoffman (Reading, PA/Exeter Township) had a throw of 138-feet to finish eighth.

S&T also had a winning performance from Jake Anderson (O'Fallon, MO/Fort Zumwalt West) in the pole vault as he cleared 15-1 to capture that title.

Lucas Rackers (Florissant, MO/St. Louis University HS) recorded a pair of second place efforts Saturday, doing so in the 1,500-meters with a time of 3:56.02 and the 800-meters in 1:55.38.  S&T also got third place finishes from Kyle Burke (Plainfield, IL/Plainfield) in the 100-meter hurdles as he finished in 15.05 seconds, Michael Pate (Wildwood, MO/Lafayette) with his time of 49.49 seconds in the 400-meters and Samuel Schmidt in the 200-meters as he finished in 22.03 seconds.

S&T got fourth place showings from Rhet Liley (Jackson, MO/Jackson) in the javelin throw with a mark of 173-2, Sam Wright (Hillsboro, MO/Hillsboro) in the 110-meter hurdles in 15.72 seconds, Schmidt in the 100-meter dash in 10.97 seconds.  Aaron Toben (Wildwood, MO/Lafayette) placed fifth in the 400-meter hurdles in 54.88 seconds, while Wright was seventh in that event in 56.11.

Paulvin Horton (Raleigh, NC/Garner) had a fifth place finish in the high jump by clearing 6-4 and also recorded a sixth place finish in the long jump with a leap of 22-3.  Andrew Lofgren (Chesterfield, MO/Parkway West) also had a sixth-place performance in the 1,500-meters in 4:00.18, just ahead of teammate Daniel Garrison's (Liberty, MO/Liberty) seventh place time of 4:02.50.  Garrison also took sixth in the 800-meters in a time of 1:59.66 as did Isaac Pollard (Lindale, TX/Lindale) in the pole vault with a clearance of 13-1½.

Noah Richardson (Hillsboro, MO/Grandview) finished in seventh place in the triple jump with a mark of 42-10½, while Justis Braden (Liberty, MO/Liberty North) finished eighth in the javelin with his throw of 166-4 and Caleb Graham (Carl Junction, MO/Carl Junction) did likewise in the pole vault at 11-1¾.

Missouri S&T will compete at the Southwest Baptist Invitational next weekend in Bolivar, Mo.
