INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Missouri S&T's
Aidan Walters (Olathe, KS/Olathe East) and
Noah Clancy (Alton, IL/Alton) added another All-America award to their mantles Saturday night as they earned scoring spots in the 200-yard backstroke on the final day of the NCAA Division II Swimming & Diving Championships.
Walters finished 14
th in the event with a time of 1:46.90 after breaking the school record with a mark of 1:45.77 in the morning session. Clancy, the previous holder of the record, finished 16
th in the 200-backstroke in 1:47.43.
The All-America award was the fourth won by Clancy at this year's meet and the third claimed by Walters. In all, six fo S&T's swimmers claimed 12 awards over the course of the five days of competition.
S&T's 400-yard freestyle relay team narrowly missed one of the scoring spots, finishing 17
th as the team of
Connor Wiedemeier (West Monroe, LA/West Monroe), Clancy,
Nate Baxter (St. Charles, IL/St. Charles North) and Walters had a time of 2:59.46, less than a second off the last scoring spot that went to Lewis in 2:58.82.
In the morning preliminaries, Wiedemeier recorded a time of 44.91 seconds in the 100-yard freestyle, while
Connor Bichsel (Lee's Summit, MO/Lee's Summit West) had a time of 2:01.68 in the 200-yard breaststroke and
Jay Mercer (Kansas City, MO/Whitefield Academy) had a time in that event of 2:02.50.
The Miners finished in 17
th place in the team standings with 34 points and was fourth among the Great Lakes Valley Conference schools at the meet. The three that finished above S&T took the top three spots overall, with Indianapolis capturing the national championship with 527 points. Drury finished in second place and McKendree took third.
