Miners conclude regular season with two-game homestand

ROLLA, Mo. - The S&T women's basketball team will conclude its regular season with a two-game homestand, starting with a contest against Lewis on Thursday evening at 5:30 p.m. and then the home finale Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. against Indianapolis on Senior Day at Gibson Arena.  
 
On Saturday, S&T will honor four seniors on Senior Day which include Michaela Davis (Keokuk, Iowa/Keokuk), Kristen Keys (St. Louis, MO/Westminster Christian Academy), Laura Rodriguez (Gran Canaria, Spain/Baloncesto Torrelodones) and Alex Kerr (St. Louis, MO/St. Joseph's Academy) for their great careers in an S&T uniform, where all four have started all of the Miners' 26 games this season. 
 
The Miners (15-11, 11-7 GLVC) enter the final two Great Lakes Valley Conference regular season games currently tied for fourth in the GLVC Point Rating System standings, moving into that position following a 64-60 victory over Maryville on Saturday in St. Louis. In that decision, Alex Kerr (St. Louis, MO/St. Joseph's Academy) led S&T with 21 points and secured 14 rebounds, while Addyson Kent (North Vernon, IN/Jennings County) contributed 12 points off the bench as all of her points came from behind the arc. The Miners have clinched a spot in the GLVC Tournament as they have recorded their best conference record in 10 seasons.
 
Individually, S&T is led in scoring and rebounding by Kerr – who was named Monday as the GLVC's Player of the Week -- where she stands alone in the conference as the only player averaging a double-double with a scoring average of 16.2 points per game ranks fifth, while leading the conference with a rebounding mark of 10 per game. Rodriguez is the second-leading scorer for S&T at 14.1 points per game, which ranks 15th among all GLVC players and is third in free throw shooting at 87.3 percent. 
 
As a team, S&T ranks second in the GLVC as it is holding its opponents to 39.6 percent shooting from the field and 30 percent shooting from behind the arc.
 
ABOUT LEWIS:
The Flyers (18-8, 14-4) enter this decision ranked second in the GLVC standings and are coming off a 74-62 victory over Rockhurst Saturday. Lewis was led in scoring by Kathryn Schmidt with 21 points, while Grace Hilber added 18 off the bench. 
 
In the first matchup back on Jan. 14, Lewis defeated the Miners 72-59 in Romeoville, Ill., where Kerr led S&T with 14 points as Kent added 12 points off the bench. Kerr, Anna Finley (Owensville, MO/Owensville), and Michaela Davis (Keokuk, Iowa/Keokuk) hauled down six rebounds each. Lewis was led in scoring by Schmidt with 24 points and Jenna Badali with 13. 
 
Schmidt leads the Flyers in scoring and rebounding with averages of 15.9 points and 8.6 rebounds per game, while Hilber is scoring 14.5 per game. As a team, Lewis leads the GLVC in field goal defense as it is holding its opponents to 39 percent shooting from the field and is second in the conference in assists with an average of 15.7 per game.  
 
ABOUT UINDY:
The Greyhounds (15-11, 11-7 GLVC) enter the final two games currently tied with S&T for fourth in the GLVC standings and will face Missouri-St. Louis Thursday evening before coming to Gibson Arena. On Saturday, the Greyhounds defeated Southwest Baptist 76-65 as Sadie Hill led UIndy with 32 points while shooting 11-of-21 from the field. 
 
Back on Jan. 12, S&T defeated the Greyhounds in Indianapolis 72-67 as the Miners had four players finish in double figures in scoring, led by Kerr with 23 points as she also added a team-high 13 rebounds. Keys added 13 points while shooting three-of-six from behind the arc, while Davis and Kent added 10 points each. S&T outrebounded the Greyhounds 46-26 while scoring 36 points in the paint. 
 
This season, the Greyhounds are led in scoring and rebounding by Hill with averages of 14.8 points and 7.3 rebounds per game; her scoring average ranks 11th in the conference. 
 
As a team, UIndy is the top free throw shooting team in the GLVC at 77.4 percent and is second in the conference with 75 blocks.
