Miners begin final road trip of season at McKendree and Maryville

ROLLA, Mo. - The S&T women's basketball team will complete its final road swing of the regular season starting with a visit to McKendree Thursday evening at 5:30 p.m., before traveling to Maryville on Saturday at 1 p.m. for the final road matchup of the season at Moloney Arena.  
 
The Miners (13-11, 9-7 GLVC) enter the week coming off a 75-69 victory over Missouri-St. Louis last Thursday evening, as four S&T players finished in double figures led by Laura Rodriguez (Gran Canaria, Spain/Baloncesto Torrelodones) with a season-high 30 points -- 18 of which came in the first quarter. Alex Kerr (St. Louis, MO/St. Joseph's Academy) recorded 20 points and a team-high seven rebounds, while Michaela Davis (Keokuk, Iowa/Keokuk) added 12 and Kristen Keys (St. Louis, MO/Westminster Christian Academy) notched 11 points.
 
This season, the Miners are led in scoring and rebounding by Kerr with averages of 16.1 points and 9.8 rebounds per game. Her scoring average ranks fifth in the GLVC while her rebounding average is second and blocked shot average is third as she has recorded 30 blocks on the season. Rodriguez, meanwhile, moved up three spots in the GLVC scoring race to 14th with an average of 14 points per game while remaining as the top free throw shooter in the GLVC with a 90 percent mark.
 
Davis has moved into the top 15 in the conference with an average of 77.8 percent from the free throw line, where she has scored 91 points this season.  
 
As a team, S&T ranks second in the conference in field goal defense as it holding its opponents to just under 40 percent from the field and to a 30.6 percent shooting mark from behind the arc. 
 
ABOUT MCKENDREE:
The Bearcats (10-13, 7-9 GLVC) enter this matchup coming off a 85-73 defeat at the hands of Rockhurst on Saturday in Kansas City, as Clare Breden led McKendree with 15 points and five assists. Naomi McDaniel contributed 14 points and Maclayne Taylor added 12. 
 
In the last matchup between the teams on Jan. 7, the Miners defeated the Bearcats 80-78 in Gibson Arena as four Miners finished in double figures, led by Keys with 21 points as she shot three-of-six from behind the arc. Kerr contributed 19 points while securing a team-high 10 rebounds, while Rodriguez added 16 points. For McKendree, it was led in scoring by Erin Golden with 19 points while Breden and McDaniel added 14 points each.  
 
This season, the Bearcats are led in scoring and rebounding by McDaniel with averages of 13.5 points and 6.9 rebounds per contest, while Breden is averaging 10.3 points per game. McDaniel leads the team with 32 blocks which ranks second in the GLVC, while her scoring average ranks 16th among all conference players. As a team, McKendree ranks third in the GLVC holding its opponents to an average of 30.8 percent shooting from behind the arc and is fourth with 63 blocked shots. 
 
ABOUT MARYVILLE:
The Saints (15-10, 10-8 GLVC) enter this matchup coming off a 63-58 victory over UMSL last Thursday as Carsyn Fearday and Antoinette Mussorici led with 16 points and six rebounds each.
 
In the last head-to-head matchup, the Saints defeated the Miners 75-70 as Haidyn Pitsch scored 27 points while shooting five-of-12 from behind the arc. Fearday contributed 14 points while Taylor Kirby added 11. For the Miners, Kerr led the way with 23 points and nine rebounds and Rodriguez contributed 21 points while shooting seven-of-eight from the field.  
 
This season, the Saints currently have four players recording double figure scoring marks, led by Mussorici with an average of 15.2 points per game while also dishing out a team-high 88 assists. Pitsch is second on the team with an average of 13.2 points per game, while Fearday and Kirby are averaging 12.8 and 11.5 points, respectively. Kirby is leading the team with an average of 6.1 rebounds per game.
 
As a team, Maryville ranks third in the conference with 175 made three-point field goals at an average of 7.3 per game while ranking fourth in the GLVC in scoring with an average of 72.2 points per game.
