S&T to face Eutectics Tuesday before visit from Maryville Saturday

12/4/2023 3:51:00 PM

ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T's women's basketball team hopes that a trip outside of Great Lakes Valley Conference play can help get it back on the winning track, as the Miners will host a non-conference game Tuesday against Health Sciences & Pharmacy before returning to the conference slate on Saturday.

The Miners will take on the Eutectics Tuesday at 5:30 p.m., then host Maryville in a GLVC contest Saturday at 1 p.m. at Gibson Arena.

Missouri S&T comes into the week looking to halt a five-game skid after dropping three conference games last week, including home setbacks at the hands of Quincy and Illinois Springfield.  The Miners dropped to 1-7 after the loss to UIS Saturday and is 0-4 in conference play.

Katelynne Roberts (Edwardsville, IL/Edwardsville) led the Miners in the scoring column in both contests and recorded her third double-double of the season on Saturday with 19 points and 10 rebounds.  She comes into Tuesday's contest averaging 17.4 points and 8.8 rebounds and ranks among the GLVC leaders in those two categories and in blocked shots with 11 on the season.

Roberts is ranked second in the conference in field goal percentage at 57.6 percent, fourth in scoring and rebounding and fifth in blocked shots following play on Saturday.  She is one of only players in the GLVC who ranks among the top five in both scoring and rebounding

Eryn Puett (Columbia, MO/Rock Bridge) was in double figures in all three games last week as well and is averaging 10.6 points per contest, while Chorus Davis (Kansas City, MO/Lincoln College Prep) – who had a career-high 12 points in the UIS game – is scoring 8.1 points per game.  Addyson Kent (North Vernon, IN/Jennings County), meanwhile has a team-high 13 three-point baskets and also leads S&T with 21 assists and 16 steals on the year.

ABOUT UHSP: The Eutectics are 3-3 on the year, but have not played since losing an exhibition game 60-51 in overtime to Missouri-St. Louis on Nov. 17.  They won the most recent game that counted in their record, a 76-71 win over Bethany on Nov. 11 as Grace Beyer poured in 41 points in the victory.

Beyer is the leading scorer in all of NAIA basketball with an average of 34.5 points per game and has scored at least 25 points in all six of UHSP's games, including a 45-point performance against Bethel to begin the season; she also leads her team with an average of 7.2 rebounds per game, 23 assists and 14 steals.  The Eutectics have another double figure scorer in Elizabeth Allanach, who is scoring 11.2 points per contest,

ABOUT MARYVILLE: Like the Miners, the Saints are also seeking their first win in GLVC play as they are 0-4 on the year and 2-6 overall.  Maryville dropped home decisions to Illinois Springfield and Quincy as well last week as they have dropped four straight that coincided with the start of the conference season.

The Saints have three players averaging in double figures, led by Carsyn Fearday with an average of 14.6 points per game.  Antionette Mussorici is scoring 14.4 per game and leads the Saints with 30 assists and 13 steals, while Haidyn Pitsch has a team-leading 19 three-point baskets and is averaging 10.9 points per outing.

Maryville will play at Arkansas Tech on Tuesday before facing S&T in Rolla Saturday afternoon.
