SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Missouri S&T's swimming team remained in the fourth place at the conclusion of the Drury Invitational Saturday evening, as the Miners finished the meet with 14 finishes among the top five in events.
The Miners got a second place showing Saturday from its 200-yard medley relay team of
Oskar Fridsell (Solna, Sweden/Solna Gymnasium),
Noah Clancy (Alton, IL/Alton),
Nate Baxter (St. Charles, IL/St. Charles North) and
Oscar Iden (Oslo, Norway/Oslo Private Gymnasium) as it was edged by Drury by 0.85 seconds in 1:32.89. Clancy also had a second place finish on an individual basis in the 100-yard breaststroke in 56.08 seconds, while also finishing third in a time of 50.76 seconds in the 100-yard backstroke
Connor Bichsel (Lee's Summit, MO/Lee's Summit West) placed third in the 200-yard breaststroke in a time of 2:09.29 and also finished fourth in the 400-yard individual medley in 4:08.49 as did
Adam Wiedemeier (West Monroe, LA/West Monroe) in the 100-yard freestyle in 46.25 seconds. The Miners also got fifth place finishes from Fridsell in the 100-backstroke in 51.27 seconds and from
Martin Melinder (Upplands Vasby, Sweden) in the 1,000-yard freestyle in 10:04.81
S&T's 800-yard freestyle relay team of Wiedemeier, Bichsel,
Kevin Williams (Houston, TX/Westside) and
Aidan Walters (Olathe, KS/Olathe East) placed fifth in a time of 7:05.49 and the 400-yard freestyle quartet of Wiedemeier, Clancy, Iden and Walters had a fifth place showing of its own in 3:08.66.
Iden had S&T's top finish in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 51.01 seconds, while the top finish in the 200-yard freestyle came from Wiedemeier as he finished in 1:42.93 and in the 200-yard backstroke from Walters in 1:56.05 as S&T had four finishers among the top 10 in that event. Baxter had the top mark in the 200-butterfly of 1:56.91.
Drury won the team competition with 996.5 points, while Rockhurst took second and William Jewell third ahead of the Miners. S&T's next competition will be at the Missouri Invitational in Columbia, which will take place Nov. 15-17.
Friday's Recap
Missouri S&T's swimming team had four top-five finishes Friday and finds itself in fourth place after the first day of competition at the Drury Invitational.
The Miners' top finish Friday came from its 400-yard medley relay team consisting of
Aidan Walters (Olathe, KS/Olathe East),
Noah Clancy (Alton, IL/Alton),
Oscar Iden (Oslo, Norway/Oslo Private Gymnasium) and
Adam Wiedemeier (West Monroe, LA/West Monroe), as that quartet finished third with a tmie of 3:24.57.
Wiedemeier placed fourth in the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 21.10 and was also part of the 200-yard freestyle relay that took fourth, joining Clancy, Iden and Walters to finish with a time of 1:24.30. The Miners also had a second team in the 400-medley relay that finished fifth, which came from the team of
Oskar Fridsell (Solna, Sweden/Solna Gymnasium),
Jordan Christensen (Coralville, IA/Iowa West),
Nate Baxter (St. Charles, IL/St. Charles North) and
Kevin Williams (Houston, TX/Westside) in 3:28.25.
Connor Bichsel (Lee's Summit, MO/Lee's Summit West) posted the top mark for S&T in the 200-yard individual medley as finished in 1:56.19 and
Martin Melinder (Upplands Vasby, Sweden) had the Miners' highest finish in the 500-yard freestyle as he posted a time of 4:50.79 to finish 10
th.
