ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T's women's basketball team will open a four-game homestand – which will include three Great Lakes Valley Conference games along the way – with a pair of conference contests this weekend as it hosts Quincy and Illinois Springfield at Gibson Arena.
The Miners will take on Quincy Thursday at 5:30 p.m., then return to their home floor Saturday afternoon for a 1 p.m. matinee against UIS as they seek their first victory in GLVC action.
S&T, who comes into Thursday's game at 1-5 on the season, held second half leads in both of its contests to open its GLVC action but wound up on the short end of the score each time, falling 66-57 to Missouri-St. Louis on Saturday and 72-61 Monday at Indianapolis.
Katelynne Roberts (Edwardsville, IL/Edwardsville) continued her strong play in the low post in both games, recording a double-double in the loss to UMSL with 21 points and 11 rebounds and following it up with an 18-point, eight-rebound effort Monday at UIndy. Roberts leads the Miners in both categories on the season with averages of 17.2 points and nine rebounds per game and also has a team-leading nine blocked shots; she is third in the GLVC in rebounding and tied for the conference lead in blocks heading into play this weekend.
Eryn Puett (Columbia, MO/Rock Bridge) had a career-high 20 points in Monday's contest and is also in double figures on the season with an average of 10.7 points per game, while also shooting 45 percent from three-point range.
Addyson Kent (North Vernon, IN/Jennings County), meanwhile, has connected a team-high 10 times from beyond the arc and leads S&T with 16 assists and 12 steals.
ABOUT QUINCY: The Hawks also come into Thursday's game at 1-5 and lost their conference opener Monday at home to Drury 81-56. Quincy was outscored in all four quarters of the contest as it shot just 28.4 percent from the field and made only two-of-20 from three-point range.
Cymirah Williams led the Hawks with 12 points in the loss and is averaging 9.2 points, a team-leading 7.5 rebounds per game and 14 steals on the year; her scoring average trails that of Janiece Dawson, who is scoring 12.8 per game and Acheampomaa Danso's average of 10.2 per contest. Dawson is the top three-point shooter for the Hawks with nine treys and a 36 percent shooting mark from beyond the arc, while Mikayla Huffine leads Quincy with 13 assists. Danso's nine blocks are tied for the league lead with S&T's Roberts.
ABOUT ILLINOIS SPRINGFIELD: The Prairie Stars got out of the gate strong with three straight victories and an exhibition win at Division I Indiana State, but have lost their last two games by double figure margins to bring a 3-2 overall and 1-1 GLVC record into play this weekend. UIS will play at Maryville Thursday before traveling to Rolla for the Saturday contest.
